No. 3 UH sweeps Sacred Heart; tough stretch up next

Guilherme Voss had 10 kills — hitting an outrageous .833 — as the third-ranked University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team swept Sacred Heart for the second time in three days Sunday night, 25-17, 25-16, 25-20 at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

Voss had no attack errors in 12 attempts and also added four blocks and an ace for the Rainbow Warriors (14-1). Alaka’i Todd added seven kills, four blocks and an ace, libero Eleu Choy had 10 digs and setter Tread Rosenthal had 29 assists and four aces, four digs and two blocks for UH.

The Rainbow Warriors hit .385 compared to .171 for the Pioneers.

Patrick Mucherino led Sacred Heart (6-11) with 12 kills.

Things get much tougher for the ‘Bows later this week as they conclude their 11-game homestand with the Outrigger Volleyball Invitational.

UH begins the tournament with a match against No. 14 Lewis on Thursday before taking on top-ranked Grand Canyon on Friday. The Rainbow Warriors then wrap up the tourney against Big West rival UC Irvine, currently ranked No. 5, on Sunday.
