The Maui County Council passed a resolution congratulating Kamehameha Schools Maui football team for winning the Hawaii High School Athletic Association 2024 Division II State Championship.

The resolution adopted Friday recognizes the team for winning the school’s first-ever state title in football, Council member Yuki Lei Sugimura said. The Warriors won the title with a 37-14 victory over Kaiser on Nov. 30 at Mililani High School on Oahu.

The team is led by head coach Ulima Afoa and assistant coaches David Carino, Lance De Silva, Frank Abreu, Kawika Boro, Leo Delatori, Brian Harris, Kevin O’Brien, Alika Guerrero, Brandon Kang, Verne Merrill, Kaeo Ripani, Christian Rosenthal and Cy Hamasaki.
