Sports Lessons: All of the sports that I participate in competitively are ocean based and for me being on the water just gives me an exhilarating rush that I haven’t found anywhere else. Being an athlete is my medium for that rush as well as encouraging me to stay fit and healthy. I also appreciate all of the opportunities–paddling especially–has given me as I have helped to escort multiple long distance races (Moloka‘i Hoe, Great Kahakuloa, and Pailolo). Being an athlete has taught me a lot, like pushing my body even when my mind is telling me it’s done, but I feel that most importantly being an athlete has taught me respect. Not just respect for the other teams and good sportsmanship but respecting my teammates who are putting just as much effort if not more into training even if you can’t see it as well as respecting the coaches who have lived and experienced so many years in their sports but also devote their own time and effort into teaching and curating us players to be athletes just as good as them. I want to thank every one of my coaches that I’ve ever had throughout my life for helping me to get to this point.
