Baldwin, Seabury Hall finish 5th at baseball state championships
After falling to a tough opponent in the Bears’ first game at the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division I Baseball State Championships, Baldwin bounced back to win its way through the consolation bracket and take fifth in the four-day tournament.
The No. 4-seeded Bears received a first-round bye before Baldwin squared off against PAC-Five in the quarterfinals on May 7.
PAC-Five was stingy and held the Bears to just four hits and no runs en route to a 3-0 victory. PAC-Five went on to defeat No. 1-seeded Waiakea in the semifinals before falling 1-0 to No. 3-seeded Mililani in the championship game.
On Friday playing in the consolation bracket, Baldwin defeated Moanalua 7-3 and beat Kamehameha Schools Hawaii 8-3 on Saturday as the Bears finished the tournament in fifth place.
Also, King Kekaulike, which claimed the second state berth from the Maui Interscholastic League, fell 8-6 on May 6 to Hilo in the opening round of the Division I state tournament.
In the consolation bracket, King Kekaulike defeated Kailua 6-0, but lost 7-4 to Kaiser to finish 10th overall.
In the HHSAA Division II championship bracket, Seabury Hall fell 12-2 to Damien in the opening round on May 7.
The Spartans then responded by beating Waipahu 8-7 on Friday and then Kapolei 16-1 on Saturday to finish fifth overall.
