Coppa scores three touchdowns as Baldwin tops Lahainaluna

Baldwin junior Ryan Coppa caught eight passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns as the Bears defeated Lahainaluna 27-19 in a Maui Interscholastic League football game on Friday.
Baldwin quarterback Devin Inokuma completed 22 of 33 passes for 277 yards and two touchdowns, according to ScoringLive.com. Receiver Grayson Reuss also threw a touchdown pass to Coppa.
The Bears opened the scoring six seconds into the second quarter when Reuss connected with Coppa for a 24-yard touchdown. Zyler Yoshida's extra point gave Baldwin a 7-0 lead.
Lahainaluna answered with three consecutive touchdowns in the second quarter.
For the Lunas' first TD, Quarterback Sefo Leka Rosenthal threw a 43-yard pass to Urijah Ragudo.
After that, Rosenthal completed a 25-yard scoring pass to Kua Bacalso, and Kanoa Moreno later broke free for a 77-yard touchdown run. Chance Schommer made the extra point following Moreno's touchdown to give the Lunas a 19-7 lead.
Baldwin cut into the deficit on the final play of the first half when Inokuma scored on a 2-yard run. The extra-point attempt failed, leaving Lahainaluna ahead 19-13 at halftime.
Inokuma found Coppa for a 25-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and Yoshida's extra point put Baldwin ahead 20-19.
The Bears extended their lead with 8:38 remaining in the game when Inokuma connected with Coppa again for a 53-yard touchdown. Yoshida added the extra point.
Brayden Viloria carried the ball 15 times for 50 yards for Baldwin. Yoshida was the Bears' second-leading receiver with four catches for 58 yards, in addition to kicking three extra points.
Defensively, Kika Kuailani forced a fumble and Makoa Chung recorded a fumble recovery for Baldwin.
Rosenthal completed 8 of 15 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns for Lahainaluna. Moreno rushed four times for 76 yards, while Brycen Acio had six carries for 39 yards. Bacalso caught four passes for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Rio Russell recovered a fumble and Brayden Valencia forced one for the Lunas.
Baldwin has won five straight games, outscoring its opponents 140-46 during that stretch. The 19 points scored by Lahainaluna were the most the Bears have allowed against an MIL opponent so far this season. The Bears will play Maui High on Sept. 25.
Lahainaluna has lost two straight and will face Kulanihakoi on Oct. 2. Three of the Lunas' games this season have been decided by one possession, including a 14-12 loss to Maui High, a 27-21 victory over Paradise and Friday's loss to Baldwin.
