Warriors quarterback Ryder De Silva completed 19-of-24 passes for 218 yards and three touchdowns as Kamehameha Maui rallied from a third-quarter deficit to defeat Maui High 28-18 in a football game Saturday.
The Warriors amassed 358 yards of offense, including 218 through the air and 140 on the ground, while holding the Sabers to 112 total yards, according to Scoringinglive.com.
Kaikea Hueu gave Kamehameha Maui a 7-0 lead with a 9-yard touchdown run with 2:34 remaining in the first quarter. Eli Caires added the extra point.
Maui High responded in the second quarter when Devin Myrick connected with Reno Vaka for an 8-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion failed, leaving the Warriors ahead 7-6 with 4:16 remaining in the half.
The Sabers took the lead on a defensive touchdown early in the third quarter. Kamehameha Maui completed a short pass along the sideline before Maui High's Christopher Banaag knocked the ball loose. Ma'ake Lolohea recovered the fumble and returned it 46 yards for a Sabers' touchdown.
Maui High's pass on the two-point conversion failed, but the touchdown gave the Sabers a 12-7 lead with 7:35 remaining in the third quarter.
Kamehameha Maui quickly regained control, however. Kamalei Bullock caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from De Silva, and Caires' kick put the Warriors back in front 14-12.
De Silva later connected with Bruce Beltran for a 16-yard touchdown, and extended the lead to 21-12 by the end of the third quarter.
The pair teamed up again in the fourth quarter, this time for a 15-yard touchdown pass. Caires' fourth successful extra-point kick gave the Warriors a 28-12 advantage with 6:33 remaining.
Maui High completed the scoring when quarterback Colin Rowe ran for a 2-yard touchdown with 2:39 left. The two-point conversion failed.
Beltran finished with eight receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns for the Sabers. Bullock caught five passes for 76 yards and a score.
Xander Pagan led Kamehameha Maui's rushing attack with 60 yards on 10 carries. Hueu finished with 43 yards and a touchdown on six attempts, while De Silva added 24 yards on six carries.
With the victory, Kamehameha Maui rebounded from a 16-6 loss to Baldwin on Sept. 4. The Warriors will play King Kekaulike on Sept. 18. At the same time, Maui High has lost three consecutive games. The Sabers will face Kulanihakoi on Sept. 18.
