Football: Hanchett scores four touchdowns as Molokai beats Lanai

John Ikua Hanchett scored four touchdowns and ran for four two-point conversions as Molokai defeated Lanai 46-12 on Saturday in an eight-player football game in Lanai City.

The Farmers reversed the result of the teams' previous meeting, which Lanai won 34-28 on Sept. 5 on Molokai.

Hanchett scored three rushing touchdowns and caught another as Molokai built a 24-12 lead through three quarters before scoring 22 unanswered points in the fourth.

He opened the scoring on a 20-yard touchdown run with 1:21 remaining in the first quarter and added the conversion run to give Molokai an 8-0 lead.

Lanai responded when Blaze Burkett scored on a 5-yard run with 4:35 remaining in the second quarter. The conversion attempt failed.

Hanchett restored Molokai's eight-point advantage by catching a 22-yard touchdown pass from Mekena Kahele with 2:26 remaining in the half. Hanchett ran for the conversion to make it 16-6.

The Pine Lads answered again when Burkett caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Matt Elaydo with 1:15 left in the second quarter. Another unsuccessful conversion attempt left Molokai ahead 16-12 at halftime.

Hanchett scored the only points of the third quarter on a 25-yard run with 6:57 remaining. He added another conversion run to increase the Farmers' lead to 24-12.

Molokai pulled away in the fourth quarter. Hanchett scored on a 3-yard run and added the conversion with 7:57 remaining, giving him 32 points in the game.

Riley Nakayama returned a fumble 80 yards for a touchdown less than two minutes later. The conversion attempt failed.

Madden Loo completed the scoring with a 25-yard touchdown run with 2:23 remaining and ran for the conversion to give Molokai a 46-12 lead.
