With the Sabers scoring touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams, the Maui High football team snapped a three-game losing skid and won 51-6 over Kulanihakoi on Sept. 18.
On the opening possession, the Sabers effectively moved the ball down the field, helped by sophomore quarterback Colin Rowe completing a 36-yard pass to receiver Daravon White. Senior running back Micah Barut finished off the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run for a 6-0 lead.
Rowe later connected with junior Devin Myrick for a 33-yard touchdown pass, and Kian Bazzini's extra point extended the Sabers' lead to 13-0.
Maui High made it 20-0 when sophomore running back Zayden Sauceda scored on a 2-yard run on fourth-and-goal, and Bazzini added the extra point.
Kulanihakoi got on the scoreboard in the second quarter after Austin McLeod broke a 57-yard run to the Maui High 5-yard line. He finished off the scoring drive with a 1-yard carry to give Kulanihakoi its second TD in as many weeks.
The extra-point attempt failed, leaving the Manta Rays trailing 20-6.
The Sabers responded almost immediately, as Barut broke free for a 58-yard touchdown run. Maui High then recovered a botched punt snap in the end zone for another touchdown, increasing its lead to 32-6.
Rowe's 23-yard touchdown pass to Tevin Myrick gave the Sabers a 38-6 halftime advantage, and Maui High added two interception returns for touchdowns in the second half.
In the third quarter, Devin Myrick intercepted a pass at the Sabers' 1-yard line and returned it 99 yards for a score. White returned an interception 52-yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Up next, Maui High will play Baldwin on Sept. 25. The Bears won the teams' previous meeting 36-0 on Aug. 29.
Kulanihakoi is set to face Kamehameha Maui next. The Warriors defeated the Manta Rays 63-0 on Aug. 22.
