Big Chefs, Little Chefs a big hit; more Morimoto news

Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto was on Maui last weekend attending the Big Chefs Little Chefs event at the Yokouchi Family Estate in Wailuku.
It was a wonderful event on Friday night benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Maui. Chef Morimoto donated a privately cooked dinner for 10 people to be prepared and served in the Presidential Suite at the Andaz Maui at Wailea.
The resort is where his Morimoto Maui is located. In addition, he led the winning team of little chefs. Jeremiah "JJ" Valeroso, who appeared on an episode of "Chopped Jr" on TV, was a team member.
Morimoto Maui will once again be one of the 20 participants in Restaurant Week Wailea starting Sunday through Nov. 12; and this month kicks off the restaurant's third anniversary.
"We're excited to participate again in Restaurant Week Wailea," says Director of Operations Shik Ahn. "Being able to share the exquisite cuisine of Chef Morimoto, along with wine pairings, while benefiting the Maui Food Bank at the same time is a win-win for everyone involved."
The three-course RWW menu will begin with Wagyu beef carpaccio (with yuzu soy, ginger, sweet garlic) or mini toro tartare (dashi soy, rice cracker, chive). Entrees are Kauai prawn (with Thai curry sauce, local vegetables); sushi (nigiri and maki); or the popular Angry Chicken (marinated organic bird with roasted peppers). Dessert options are tofu cheesecake (pineapple, Tahitian vanilla, hearts of palm) or calamansi lime mousse (with coconut mochi and toasted macadamia nuts). Cost of the three courses is $49, plus tax and tip.
The official anniversary is on Saturday and in celebration, Morimoto Maui will feature various additions to the Japanese menu throughout the month of November. Call 243-4766.
