Maui COVID-19 cases climb from 9 to 11; state shoots to 77 total
Hawaii saw the largest single-day jump of 21 cases — reaching a total of 77 confirmed or presumptive coronavirus individuals as of today, state health officials reported.
Maui’s totals climbed from nine on Sunday to 11 today, said the state Department of Health update issued at noon today.
Hawaii island has five cases (up two); Honolulu has 53 cases (up 12); and Kauai stayed at 3 cases. The total of 21 includes five state cases from unknown counties that are pending.
Health officials recently said the majority of cases are residents returning home from traveling.
Gov. David Ige on Saturday said traveling to Hawaii will decrease after a 14-day self-quarantine mandate that takes effect this Thursday for residents and visitors entering the state.
