Council committee gives initial nod to Martin
A Maui County Council Committee this morning unanimously approved a resolution to appoint Andrew Martin to be the county’s new Prosecuting Attorney.
The Government Relations, Ethics and Transparency Committee voted 9-0 to approve the resolution which now will be headed to the full council for final approval.
Mayor Michael Victorino put forward the appointment to the council recently.
The head prosecuting attorney position opened in early December after Victorino submitted and the council approved a resolution to remove then-Prosecuting Attorney Don Guzman.
A county trial attorney filed a violence in the workplace complaint against Guzman that let to an independent investigation last fall. The report concluded Guzman had violated county workplace rules.
Martin has been a county deputy prosecuting attorney since February 2015 and from September 2005 to March 2010, a county news release said.
