Fatal incident results in death Monday morning

WAILUKU – The Maui Police Department (MPD) is investigating a fatal incident that occurred on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, at approximately 12:05 a.m., near the intersection of Honoapiilani Highway and Waiolu Place in Waikapu.
The incident led to the death of the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, Shawn Lewis (42) of Lahaina. The Maui Police Department extends their deepest condolences to Mr. Lewis' family and friends.
The cause of death is pending autopsy.
MPD investigators are actively working to determine the sequence of events.
