Benjamin Netanyahu ignores Biden

What do you think President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s response might have been if another nation had called on him to stop U.S. and Allied forces from taking Berlin and squashing the Nazi regime in 1945? Same question about President Harry Truman when it came to dropping nuclear bombs on Japan, prompting its swift surrender? In the case of Germany, if allied forces had pulled their punches, Adolf Hitler might have survived, regrouped his National Socialist Party, and continued killing Jews. Those analogies are applicable when it comes to what Israel is trying to achieve in Rafah - the ...

Israel says it reopened a key Gaza crossing after a rocket attack but the UN says no aid has entered

JERUSALEM—The Israeli military said Wednesday that it has reopened its Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza after days of closure, but the U.N. said no humanitarian aid has yet entered and there is no one to receive it on the Palestinian side after workers fled during Israel’s military incursion in the area. The Kerem Shalom crossing between Gaza and Israel was closed over the weekend after a Hamas rocket attack killed four Israeli soldiers nearby, and on Tuesday, an Israeli tank brigade seized the nearby Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt, forcing its closure. The two facilities are ...

TikTok sues US to block law that could ban social media platform

The Associated Press TikTok and its Chinese parent company filed a lawsuit Tuesday challenging a new American law that would ban the popular video-sharing app in the U.S. unless it’s sold to an approved buyer, saying it unfairly singles out the platform and is an unprecedented attack on free speech. In its lawsuit, ByteDance says the new law vaguely paints its ownership of TikTok as a national security threat in order to circumvent the First Amendment, despite no evidence that the company poses a threat. It also says the law is so “obviously unconstitutional” that its sponsors ...

Brown, White lead Celtics to 120-95 Game 1 win over Cavs

BOSTON — When Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum have it going, it usually means good things for the Boston Celtics. This postseason, it’s also been opening up the floor —- and the 3-point line —- for Derrick White. That’s added a new layer to a team that was already the one to beat in the East. Brown scored 32 points, White made seven 3-pointers and added 25, and the Celtics powered past the Cleveland Cavaliers 120-95 on Tuesday night in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series. Tatum finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds to help the Celtics pull away in the second ...

Bruins-Panthers set for Game 2

SUNRISE, Fla. — The season for the Florida Panthers cannot end on Wednesday night. It’s not an elimination game, the Boston Bruins cannot close them out and no matter what happens there’s a flight to Massachusetts on Thursday and another game there on Friday. So, it’s not a must-win. The Panthers might feel otherwise. Game 2 of Panthers-Bruins is Wednesday night, with Boston looking to go up 2-0 in the NHL second-round playoff series. Florida has trailed a playoff matchup 2-0 on five occasions in its history and hasn’t rallied to win any of them — the Panthers were swept ...

Gobert wins record-tying 4th Defensive Player of the Year award

Rudy Gobert made some history. Victor Wembanyama nearly did. Gobert, the Minnesota center, was announced Tuesday as the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year for a record-tying fourth time — joining Basketball Hall of Fame inductees Dikembe Mutombo and Ben Wallace. It was the fifth time in the last 11 seasons that a French center won defensive player of the year — and it sure seems like Wembanyama will add to that country’s total before long. The San Antonio rookie center, announced Monday as the league’s Rookie of the Year, was second in the voting and fell one spot short of ...
