* Optometrist Linda Nguyen has recently passed her board exam and is Maui’s first board certified optometrist, according to an announcement.

The American Board of Optometry’s processes of board certification and maintenance of certification demonstrate that the optometrist is dedicated to providing quality patient care, the announcement said.

It is also a process that allows optometrists to demonstrate that they exceed entry-level requirements and are maintaining the appropriate knowledge, skills and experience needed to deliver quality eye care.

Nguyen, originally from Los Angeles, has been on Maui practicing optometry since 2005.

* Lynn Ornellas, a 2001 King Kekaulike High School graduate, has been promoted to vice president of construction accounting services for Spectrum Retirement Communities based in Colorado.

She was hired in 2012 as assistant controller. She is the daughter of Phyllis and Albert Ornellas of Pukalani.

Spectrum Retirement Communities is headquartered in Denver. It is a developer, owner and operator of retirement, assisted-living and memory-care communities across the United States, a news release said.

* Four Seasons Resorts Lanai recently appointed Dan Greenwood as senior director of engineering for the Manele Bay and the Lodge at Koele hotels.

He will oversee all aspects of engineering between the two luxury properties, including maintenance, landscaping and sustainability initiatives.

Greenwood is a 25-year veteran of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. He has worked in management positions throughout Asia and North America. He makes the move to Hawaii from the Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou in China.

* Kirstin Hamman has recently opened her own law office in Wailuku.

She is a 1997 graduate of the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law.

That same year she began her career on Maui as a law clerk for 2nd Circuit Judge Boyd P. Mossman.

She also has previously worked for the Maui Office of the Public Defender, Legal Aid Society of Hawaii and the Maui County Council. She has experience in criminal, family and administrative law and the state and county legislative processes.

* Imua Family Services once again was named by Hawaii Business Magazine as a 2014 Best Places to Work in Hawaii and the nation for the third consecutive year, according to an announcement.

This is the nonprofit’s fifth award in its class, making the local Maui agency an exclusive platinum winner.

Imua Family Services was previously awarded the Best Places to Work award in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2013.

Imua is a nonprofit organization that has been helping children with developmental and behavior challenges on Maui and Lanai since 1947.

* Executive Chef Tylun Pang of The Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui and Ko Restaurant was recently honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2014 ‘Aipono Dining Awards.

Ko restaurant was further recognized, earning the Gold award for Best Hawaii Regional Cuisine and the Silver award for Best Healthy Choices.

Pang has spent more than a decade as executive chef at The Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui and is active in the community.

Sponsored by Maui No Ka Oi magazine, ‘Aipono Awards annually recognize the best of Maui’s food, wine and hospitality industries. Winners are selected by the magazine readers, a news release said.

* Sangrita Grill and Cantina, a Mexican restaurant and tequila bar, opened May 5 in Kaanapali.

Chef Paris Nabavi is owner of the restaurant that blends local ingredients with traditions of Mexico. Signature dishes include the Mother Clucker Flautas, with chicken and jalapeno sauce and the Cochinita Pibil – pork wrapped in banana leaves and topped with achiote sauce and pickled red onion. The restaurant also offers vegan and gluten free options.

Nabavi is the creator and owner of Pizza Paradiso Mediterranean Grill in Honokowai and Cilantro Mexican Grill in Lahaina.

The restaurant is located in the Fairway Shops on the Kaanapali shuttle route. It is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Happy Hour is from 3 to 6 p.m. Call 662-6000.

* Anuenue Juice Bar and Cafe, owned and operated by Tammy Ringbauer, opened a new Lahaina location May 1.

The business has a location on Lanai as well, and uses organic and local products.

Anuenue Juice Bar and Cafe is across from Kimo’s restaurant on Front Street. The juice bar and cafe is open daily 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

* Architectural Design & Construction Inc. recently appointed Mika Yamaguchi as one of the firm’s project designers.

Yamaguchi graduated with a Master of Architecture degree from John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture at the University of Toronto, Canada, in 2012.

She will join the firm’s residential master planning team and serve as a project designer for architectural projects.

Tanner Morrin, another project designer for ADC recently, earned certified LEED Green Associate credentials. The designation identifies him as an architectural professional with the skills for incorporating green building principles and practices into new home and remodeling projects.

LEED certification coursework is based on the National Green Building Standard, the only American National Standards Institute approved rating system for green homes, developments and remodeling projects, according to a news release. The standard includes sections on energy, water and resource efficiency; indoor environmental quality; lot and site development and homeowner education.

* Paula Liu was recently named director of finance for Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa. She joined Starwood Hotels and Resorts, the owner and operator of Sheraton and several other hotel brands, in 2003 and has since held a variety of financial leadership roles, including assistant director of finance for Sheraton Sacramento, assistant director of finance at Westin Maui Resort & Spa, regional task force controller for Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Hawaii and French Polynesia and most recently as director of finance at the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa.

Liu earned a bachelor of science degree in European studies from University College Cork in Ireland.

* Central Pacific Bank recently appointed Roselane Dela Cruz-Short as its Lahaina Branch manager and Delia Kaniaupio as Kihei Branch manager.

Both women are responsible for leading, coaching and inspiring their teams to consistently meet and exceed the specific financial needs of CPB’s customers, including customer and local businesses.

Dela Cruz-Short was with CPB from 1990 to 2009. In 2009 she relocated to Oregon, where she worked for Holiday Retirement. Her previous position with the bank was as sales and service manager at its Kahului Branch.

Kaniaupio has more than 15 years of banking experience and has been with CPB since 2000, where she served as customer service manager at the Kihei Branch.
