Molasses spill has impact on earnings

HONOLULU (AP) - The shipping company responsible for a molasses spill that killed more than 26,000 fish and other marine life in Hawaii said the incident is partly to blame for lower profits in the third quarter.Matson Inc. on Wednesday reported net income of $17.2 million, or 40 cents per share, for the three months that ended Sept. 30. Farm tries to control coffee berry borerHILO- A Hilo farmer is taking steps to halt the spread of coffee berry borers.Troy Keolanui said transparency is the best way to keep the pest, which can cut coffee crop yields by 80 to 90 percent, from spreading to other east Hawaii orchards.The beetle has damaged crops in Kona and Kau.
