GUITARISTS TO PERFORM FREE MAUI CONCERTS
Virtuoso Benjamin Verdery and other smokin’ hot guitarists from Hawaii and the Mainland will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. at Keawala’i Congregational Church at 5300 Makena Road in Makena.
IKAIKA BLACKBURN AT FREE MUSIC CONCERT
Lahaina Restoration Foundation continues its free Hawaiian Music Series with a concert featuring Ikaika Blackburn and Friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the lawn in front of the Baldwin Home Museum. A limited number of chairs will be provided; blankets, mats and low beach chairs are welcome.

FOR NEW ART EXHIBIT
An opening reception with the artists featured at Viewpoints Gallery will be held at 5 p.m. Artworks will include acrylic paintings on canvas by Suzy Papanikolas, oil paintings by Lisa Kasprzycki, ceramics by Mary Ann Leigh, kapa by Denby Freeland-Cole and wood turnings by Todd Campbell. SWISS FEST FEATURES FOOD, YODELING, MUSIC

HIROSHIMA, NAGASAKI REMEMBRANCE EVENT
Writer and teacher Melinda Clarke will speak on long-term peace-building at this year’s Hiroshima and Nagasaki remembrance event at the University of Hawaii Maui College. Clarke lived and worked in Hiroshima for many years and interviewed more than 50 A-bomb survivors. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with origami peace crane-making in the Pilina Building and will also feature performances by the Maui Taiko drummers, koto musicians and Yosakoi dancers. MAUI’S NEW CHAMBER ORCHESTRA TO DEBUT
The Maui Chamber Orchestra will present its debut concert Aug. 8 at the Historic Iao Theater. “The Birth of an Orchestra,” featuring the Maui Masterworks Chorale, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 and 3 p.m. Aug. 10.
