Even on a sub-tropical island paradise like Maui, autumn is in the air. Here are some activity and event ideas to color your world for Halloween and beyond.

PUMPKIN PATCH

Pumpkins and gourds grow in all shapes and sizes at Kula Country Farms across from Rice Park on Kula Highway.

Bring your cameras to take pictures of the pumpkin patch and the sunflower garden; walk through the corn maze; and bring your shopping bags to buy fresh produce, plants and flowers.

Operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays to Fridays; and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. For prices on admission, group tours and more details, call 878-8381.

Halloween in Lahaina

One of the largest Halloween celebrations in the Pacific will once again transpire Oct. 31 in Lahaina.

Front Street will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking from Baker to Prison streets from 3:30 p.m. to midnight and the businesses and restaurants will be putting on lively celebrations.

The 36th annual Lahaina Keiki Parade will kick things off at 4:30 p.m. Meet at the corner of Papalaua and Front streets to join in the fun. There will be candy for the keiki, special guests, prizes and music. Sponsors says to ensure that costumes are safe , offer good vision and are appropriate for tropical temperatures.

After the keiki parade, the adult fun goes on for hours.

Free FAMILY Haunt

Lahaina Cannery Mall will provide a safe, air-conditioned place for families with young children to enjoy Halloween magic, trick-or-treating, face painting, crafts and its annual Keiki Costume Contest from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 31.

Kupanaha performers from Ka’anapali Beach Hotel will spellbind the little ones with family magic at 5 p.m., followed by the keiki costume contest at 6 p.m. More than a dozen prizes will be given away in five age groups (0 to 2, 3 to 4, 5 to 8 and 9 to 12). This year, there will also be a new, 16-and-older division.

ROCKY HORROR party

Come do the time warp again at the Rocky Horror Dance Party from 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 31 under the stars at Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului. Reprising their roles are former Maui “RHPS” stars Eric Gilliom, Amy Hanaiali’i Jerry Eiting, Dr. Nat, Dale Button, Vince Esquire, Kelly Covington and the audience, of course.

The famous cult movie will be enhanced by the live actors belting out tunes, such as “Dammit Janet”; participatory accessories will be available for purchase as will food and drink; and Gilliom and Sins of the Flesh will get you dancing after the show, as will DJ Marasco.

Charley’s in Paia

For the past six years, Halloween night at Charley’s has been a sold-out affair with wildly creative costumes, fun entertainment and a north-shore party atmosphere that is setting island trends.

This year, Iyeoka, Taimane Gardner and Quadraphonix will pour out soul, funk and global rhythms into the Halloween cauldron for a mesmerizing concoction for those 21 and older. Party starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15. Call 579-8085.

TRUNK or TREAT

Those looking for a Halloween party that is safe, fun and chalk full of treats, rides and entertainment for the whole family should come to Hope Chapel in Kihei from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 31. Free highlights are a petting zoo, hayride, keiki zone, mechanical bull and candy. Food will be for sale. Cost is $3; kids 3 and younger get in free.
