REGGAE ON THE ROCK FESTIVAL TAKES ROOT
People with dreads and Bob Marley threads will be at the Reggae on the Rock Festival Friday at Mulligans on the Blue in Wailea; and also Saturday at Lulu’s Lahaina Surf Club & Grill. Performers are West Coast’s Fortunate Youth, New York’s New Kingston and Big Island’s The Steppas joining Maui’s Inna Vision. Doors open at 6 p.m. at both venues. 17TH ANNUAL LIGHTING OF THE BANYAN TREE
The LahainaTown Action Committee presents the 17th Annual Lighting of the Banyan Tree, a two-day celebration. Saturday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Santa will arrive at 2 p.m. Saturday There will be lots of activities for the keiki. For more information, call 667-9715.
TREE LIGHTING, COOKIES, CAROLING AT THE GRAND
Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort, will host caroling, hula and ukulele starting at 5 p.m. at its gingerbread village, along with complimentary cookies and hot cocoa. At 6 p.m., the 25-foot-tall tree will be lit on the grand drive with eight miles of white lights. The holiday event is free and open to the public. Valet parking will be free. Tips are welcome. FIRST LIGHTING OF TREE CEREMONY UPCOUNTRY
Celebrate Ulupalakua’s 150 years of forestation efforts at the inaugural Lighting of the Tree from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Maui’s Winery grounds. The free event Includes caroling, crafts, outdoor screening of “Polar Express” and more. All attendees are asked to donate canned and/or non perishable foods for Maui Food Bank. Do bring a jacket or sweater and a blanket to sit on.
