OBON FESTIVAL HELD AT LAHAINA JODO MISSION

The summer obon season continues at Lahaina Jodo Mission, with a service at 6:30 p.m. and dancing at 8 p.m. Obon is an annual summer festival held at Buddhist temples in remembrance of loved ones who have passed away. The mission is located at 12 Ala Moana St. Call 661-4304 for more information.

SALUTE AMERICA AT WAILUKU TOWN PARTY

Celebrate Independence day at Wailuku’s First Friday town party from 6 to 9 p.m. Entertainment includes Ashley Lilinoe from 6 to 7 p.m. and Crazy Fingers from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on the Maui Thing Stage as they celebrate its seventh anniversary. Check out Rare Vibration at Banyan Tree Park at 6 p.m. Catch a free sneak peek of “The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy” at 7 p.m. in Historic Iao Theater. TWO-DAY ANNUAL LANAI PINEAPPLE FESTIVAL

Experience Lanai’s Pineapple Festival from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Dole Park. There will be crafts, games, food booths, activities, exhibitors and entertainment. Catch Willie K and fireworks on the 4th. There will be a 10 p.m. Expeditions ferry back to Lahaina on Saturday.

SATURDAY, JULY 4

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION IN LAHAINA

The LahainaTown Action Committee invites all to stroll historic Lahaina and enjoy an old-fashioned Independence Day celebration. Campbell Park: Food vendors and activities from 2 to 10 p.m. Front Street: Stilt walkers, face painting and more from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wharf Cinema Center: Seventh annual Fourth of July karaoke contest from 5 to 9 p.m.; registration begins at 4 p.m. Fireworks display at 8 p.m. from a barge offshore of Front Street with synchronized music near Hard Rock Cafe. Every year the community and businesses of Maui come together to raise funds for the annual fireworks display in Lahaina.

DANCE PARTY AT CASANOVA MAKAWAO

Join the “Dance Your Dust Off Party” from 10 p.m. to midnight with Soul Kitchen and Joel Katz on Hawaiian steel guitar at Casanova Makawao. For reservations, cal 572-0220.

CONCERT IN THE PARK AT LAHAINA LIBRARY

Celebrate the Fourth with traditional musical favorites and fireworks on the Lahaina Library lawn on Front Street. Enjoy the sounds of: University of Texas at Arlington faculty from 5 to 6 p.m.; Chop Suey Jazz Band from 6 to 7 p.m.; Maui Community Band from 7 to 8 p.m.; and fireworks display from 8 p.m. Admission is free.

MAKAWAO HONGWANJI HAS ANNUAL BAZAAR

Check out 3,000 square feet of garage sale items before and after the Makawao Paniolo Parade from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Makawao Hongwanji Mission. Saturday: Support the annual Bazaar and garage sale from 7 a.m. to noon. There will be plenty of food such as chow fun, sushi, bento and its popular pickled peaches. Plants and vegetables will also be available for purchase. The mission is located at 1074 Makawao Ave. Call 572-7229.

KEIKI UKULELE CONTEST AT QUEEN KA’AHUMANU

Queen Ka’ahumanu Center, Bounty Music and Radio Station Island 107.5 FM present a Keiki Ukulele contest at 11 a.m. (Keiki must sign up at Bounty Music by Friday.) The contest categories are 18 to 12 years, 12 and younger and People’s Choice. For more details, visit www.queenkaahumanucenter.com.

HAWAIIAN FLOWER SHOWER IN KAANAPALI

A DAY OF FUN AND FOOD AT THE SHERATON

Join the annual Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa Fourth of July celebration at 10 a.m., a benefit for StarWish charity. There will be watermelon-eating contests, face painting, jumping castle, cotton candy and more for sale. The Lucky Ducky Race is the final event and begins at the Mai Tai poolside at noon. Rubber duckies will be available for purchase. Prizes include gift certificates for hotel stays, dinner and more. All events and venues are open to the public.

TUESDAY, JULY 7

JOIN BENJAMIN VERDERY IN CONCERT UPCOUNTRY

Classical guitar virtuoso Benjamin Verdery, Grammy Award-winning guitarist Andrew York and Hawaiian guitarist and ukulele player Ian O’Sullivan will perform a special concert at 7 p.m. at Makawao Union Church. A suggested donation is $10. The program will include music composed by the performers, and will include both solo and ensemble performances.

LIVE STANDUP COMEDY AT HARD ROCK CAFE

Enjoy a mix of local and national comedians at “Laugh Out Loud Lahaina” from 10 p.m. to midnight at Hard Rock Cafe in Lahaina. Cover charge is $10. For adults ages 21 and older.
