UNCLE WAYNE AND THE HOWLING DOG BAND

Uncle Wayne and the Howling Dog Band will perform at 10:30 a.m. Today at Lahaina Public Library; at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Kihei Public Library. All children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.

AKAKU UPSTAIRS SALON SERIES ON 'SHORT FILMS'

Lucas Zarro, a young filmmaker, screenwriter and actor will speak from 6 to 8 p.m. on easing the process of writing, directing and shooting a short film. In addition, he'll share an overview on submitting your film to a festival. RSVP at 871-5554 or email info@akaku.org. This is a free event.

PROARTS CONCLUDES 'RED WHITE AND TUNA'

MAKAWAO RODEO AT OSKIE RICE ARENA

Enjoy entertainment, food and good ol' country fun at this Hawaiian tradition that boasts a rodeo show and the Paniolo Parade. The four-day engagement runs today through Sunday features amateur and professional rodeo exhibitions including bull riding, calf roping, mugging, bronco riding and breakaways. SEE PIERO RESTA: ILLUMINATUS EXHIBIT

Celebrate the legacy left by Piero Resta by visiting the Piero Resta: Illuminatus exhibit at the Schaefer International Gallery at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului. ART=MIXX: GODDESS AT THE MACC

MICHAEL CLEMENTS AT VILLAGE GALLERIES

SATURDAY, JULY 1

ANNUAL MAKAWAO PANIOLO PARADE

Enjoy this colorful Hawaiian-style small town parade along Makawao and Baldwin Avenues. Road closure begins at 8:30 a.m. so be sure to arrive early. There will be no parking in town. At 8:45 a.m. everyone is invited to participate in stick horse races; the parade begins at 9 a.m.

LANAI'S 25TH ANNUAL PINEAPPLE FESTIVAL

In honor of Lanai's heritage as the Pineapple Island, from 2 to 6 p.m. Dole Park will host a day of festivities with crafts, games, exhibitions, a cooking contest, live entertainment and food booths that showcase local favorites. OBON FESTIVAL AT LAHAINA JODO MISSION

Lahaina Jodo Mission Obon Festival, a colorful Japanese cultural event, starts with a service at 6:30 p.m. and dancing at 8 p.m. Obon is an annual summer festival held at Buddhist temples in rememberance of loved ones who have passed away. TWO-DAY BAZAAR & GARAGE SALE

The Makawao Buddhist Temple will be having a two day bazaar and garage sale. Saturday over 3,000 square feet of garage sale items; 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday bazaar and garage sale with plenty ono food, plants, vegetables and pickled peach; 7 a.m. to noon. Come early for best selection.

MANA'O UPCOUNTRY ACOUSTIC STYLE

Featuring the best in acoustic music from Maui and visiting musicians from 2 to 5 p.m. Dorothy Betz and friends Vince Esquire, Don Lopez, Middlejohn, Kerry Sofaly and more. Christine Corey with Swing, blues and country. Admission is $7 at the door.

LAHAINA INDEPENDENCE DAY FIREWORKS

Lahaina is the place to be as it hosts fun for all ages including arts and crafts, face painting, free live concerts and more. The celebration tops off with a grand fireworks show starting at 8 p.m. For more information, call 667-9175.

MOONLIT MOVIES AT SUGAR BEACH EVENTS

Chef Lee Anderson presents an outdoor moonlight showing of "Airplane!" the hilarious, screwball spoof of a disaster movie ranked sixth on Bravo's 100 Funniest Movies of all time. The film is rated PG-13. Bring your own beach chair or blanket. There is limited parking so come early. Doors open at 6 p.m., film begins at 6:45 p.m. The event is free.
