Instead of traditionally looking back at this time of year, we’re shifting forward this week, taking a look at a jam-packed show schedule coming up in the next couple of months.
Charley’s Restaurant & Saloon kicks off 2015 tonight at 9:30 p.m. with Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real returning to the Paia restaurant’s stage after their New Year’s Eve performance. Tonight’s cover is $30. In September, the band backed Neil Young and Willie Nelson at a Keystone Pipeline protest concert. Returning to Maui, Mick Fleetwood Blues Band guitarist/vocalist Rick Vito presents his exotic “King Paris & His Hypnotic Guitar” show at 9 p.m. Friday at Charley’s for $10.
Back from powering the expanded Fleetwood Mac on tour, Mick Fleetwood will host his blues band on Saturday at Fleetwood’s on Front Street in Lahaina. The rock legend recently signed copies of his new book, “Play On: Now, Then, and Fleetwood Mac: The Autobiography,” in Lahaina. Minneapolis hip-hop duo Atmosphere will play the Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s Castle Theater at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Their latest album, “Southsiders,” includes the singles “Bob Seger” and “Kanye West.” Tickets are $26 in advance and $30 the day of show (plus applicable fees). Colorado’s Leftover Salmon presents “Ho’olaulea’a 2,” featuring Bill Payne of Little Feat fame at Charley’s on Jan. 8 and 9, and at the Maui Tropical Plantation’s Mill House on Jan. 10 and 11. Jam band favorites, they’re known as the originators of the Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass genre, which blends bluegrass and rock.

The annual Willie K BBQ Blues Fest on Jan. 10 at the War Memorial Complex special events field in Wailuku features headliners like ZZ Top’s Billy F Gibbons and Taj Mahal. Tickets are $40 for adults and $10 for kids ages 5 to 11. For more information, visit www.williekbluesfest.com.
Also on the 10th, acclaimed guitarist Harry Manx brings his “Om Suite Ohm” Aloha Tour to the MACC. Bridging blues and Hindustani classical music, Manx studied with virtuoso Indian guitarist Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. Tickets are $35 and $40.
New Zealand’s Maisey Rika returns to Maui to play McCoy Studio Theater on Jan. 17. A star in her homeland, this soulful artist has swept the Maori Music Awards, winning Best Maori Female Artist, Best Maori Pop Album and Best Maori Songwriter of the Year. She recently opened for John Legend and India Arie.
Canadian electronic dance music duo Adventure Club is known for its melodic dubstep remixes. Their debut EP, “Calling All Heroes,” topped the iTunes Dance Album charts in the U.S. and Canada. The show will be Jan. 18 in the Yokouchi Pavilion at the MACC. Tickets are $35 in advance, $45 day-of.
Also on Jan. 18, the Ebb & Flow Ensemble’s biennial MACC concert offers an assortment of new music, from a classic oboe quartet by prolific British composer Benjamin Britten, to a world premiere by Ebb & Flow director Robert Pollock. Tickets are $25.
Considered the world’s greatest living cellist, Yo-Yo Ma will present an all-Bach solo recital in Castle Theater on Jan. 22. A winner of numerous awards, Ma has released more than 90 albums and recorded everything from bluegrass and Baroque to Argentinean tango. Tickets are $55, $90, $150 and $250.
Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem mix bluegrass, country and swing with hard-driving guitar and recycled junk percussion, “fashioning hip, sleek sounds from the solid cloth of vintage American music,” noted The Boston Globe. They play Jan. 23 in McCoy Studio Theater for $30.
Iconic folk music legend Judy Collins also performs at the MACC on Jan. 23. The award-winning singer-songwriter, with a 50-album body of work, is esteemed for her imaginative interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk standards and her own poetically poignant original compositions. Tickets are $35, $45, $55 and $65.
On Jan. 25, the Maui Pops Orchestra presents “A Rodgers & Hammerstein Celebration” in Castle Theater. The concert will feature many of their most loved songs, from “The King and I” and “South Pacific” to “Showboat” and “The Sound of Music,” with guest artists Christiane Noll and William Michals. Tickets are $15, $30, $40 and $50.
It will be pretty epic to see Henry Kapono, John Cruz and Brother Noland performing together Jan. 30 in Castle Theater. The three stellar musicians will play their hits and new collaborations. Sure to be one of the highlights of 2015. Tickets are $12, $28, $40 and $55.
And the same night, you can catch Louisiana-born Marc Broussard in McCoy Studio Theater. With a style described as “Bayou Soul,” Broussard mixes funk, blues, R&B, rock and pop. Hailed by the Seattle Post Intelligencer as “a marvelous singer/songwriter,” he released the acclaimed “A life Worth Living” last year. Tickets are $35, $45 and $65.
Blessed with an angelic voice, devotional chanter Simrit Kaur performs at the Makawao Union Church on Feb 1. Her fans include Belinda Carlisle of the Go Gos, who says she is “the voice of this day and age.” Tickets are $25 in advance. For more information, call 579-9261.
Taking their name from the eighth stanza of Wallace Stevens’ 1917 poem “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird,” eighth blackbird is a multiple-Grammy Award-winning contemporary chamber music sextet based in Chicago. They will perform Feb. 11 in Castle Theater. Tickets are $12, $30 and $40.
One of the finest exponents of acoustic blues, Eric Bibb is an engaging performer and rousing guitarist, blessed with a remarkable voice. Playing the Castle Theater on Feb. 12, Bibb’s latest album, “Blues People,” was hailed as “an extraordinary musical documentary.” Tickets are $30, $40 and $50.
Hawaii’s multi-award-winning female trio Na Leo Pilimehana returns to the MACC for a Valentine’s Day concert Feb. 14. Childhood friends Nalani Choy, Lehua Kalima and Angela Morales are loved for hits like “Local Boys,” “Flying with Angels,” “Friends” and “I Miss You My Hawaii.” Tickets are $12, $28, $35, $45 and $55.
With a repertoire ranging from composers Ravel and Haydn to jazz legends Wynton Marsalis and Chick Corea, the Harlem Quartet has dazzled audiences around the world. Their latest work, “Visionary,” features compositions by Corea and Mendelssohn, and they were featured on Corea’s 2013 Grammy-winning tune, “Mozart Goes Dancing.” They play the Castle Theater on Feb. 15. Tickets are $12, $30, and $40.
She sang with Michael McDonald on the Doobie Brothers’ latest “Southbound” album, and now country star Sara Evans will grace the Castle Theater on Feb. 19. With hits including “Suds in the Bucket,” “A Real Fine Place to Start,” “No Place That Far” and “A Little Bit Stronger,” Evans’ last four albums have sold gold, platinum or multi-platinum. Tickets are $35, $55, $75 and $125.
Descendants of the most prolific Hawaiian chanters of the 20th century, the award-winning family duo of Kekuhi Keli’ikanaka’oleohaililani and Kaumakaiwa Kanaka’ole will perform with Shawn Pimental in the McCoy Studio Theater on Feb. 20. The granddaughter of Edith Kanaka’ole, Keli’ikanaka’oleohaililani is known as one of our greatest Hawaiian chanters, and Kana-ka’ole has won five Hoku Awards, including Vocalist of the Year. Tickets are $30 in advance, and $40 day-of show.
Ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro makes his annual trip to Maui to play Castle Theater on Feb. 21. A wizard who combines elements of jazz, blues, funk, rock, bluegrass, classical, folk, flamenco and Hawaiian music, Shimabukuro has been lauded by legends like Queen’s Brian May, who hailed his solo ukulele version of “Bohemian Rhapsody” as “amazing . . . it really is exquisite.” Tickets are $12, $35, $45 and $55.
And finally in February, legendary Hawaiian musician Keola Beamer with kumu hula Moanalani Beamer will unite with the Maui Pops Orchestra for a special concert on the 22nd in Castle Theater. Tickets are $15, $30, $40 and $50.
