Victorino endorsed by chamber

2 min read

Former Maui County Council Member Mike Victorino has been endorsed for mayor by the Chamber of Maui Political Action Committee, which announced its picks of "business-friendly" candidates for the Nov. 6 general election.

County Council candidates getting a nod from the chamber group were: Claire Kamalu Carroll, East Maui residency seat; Rick Nava, West Maui; Alice Lee, Wailuku-Waihee-Waikapu; Alan Arakawa, Kahului; Zandra Amaral Crouse, South Maui; Mike Molina, Makawao-Haiku-Paia; Yuki Lei Sugimura, Upcountry; Riki Hokama, Lanai; and Stacy Crivello, Molokai.

Also receiving Maui chamber endorsements were Republican Andria Tupola for governor, and U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono and U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard for re-election.

Committee members interviewed candidates and evaluated them in terms of chamber positions, priorities, values and current issues. Endorsed candidates needed to achieve a minimum score to gain the chamber's backing. The candidates were not selected based on popularity or electability.
