Maui’s Akaku Community Television will once again honor local luminaries at the 2015 Maui Walk of Heroes celebration by enshrining their hands and footprints in cement outside the Akaku studios at 333 Dairy Road in Kahului (by Minit Stop).
This free, fun-filled event will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov 15.
Comedian Andy Bumatai will reprise his role as master of ceremonies.
This year’s inductees are Hawaii recording sensation, songwriter and slack-key master Barry Flanagan of HAPA fame; renowned kumu hula Hokulani Holt; and speaker of the Hawaii House of Representatives Joe Souki.
This will be the fourth year that Akaku will honor Maui’s individuals of distinction who are “undisputed heroes” in the island community.
Flanagan has said that Maui is “an eternal wellspring of inspiration for artists around the globe.”
“His generosity has allowed Akaku to feature his work on our channels,” says CEO and founder Jay April. “And we are forever grateful for the music he and his group HAPA brings to our ears and touches our hearts.”
Kumu hula Holt is a living embodiment of aloha and of all things good, true and beautiful about Hawaii and Hawaiians, according to April. “It was she and Keali’i Reichel who gave the station its name, ‘Akaku,’ which means ‘extraordinary vision,’ and reflection as if in a mirror.”
Speaker of the House Souki has served in the Hawaii State Capitol on Oahu for nearly 35 years and is a champion for his native Maui.
“When Public Access TV was threatened at the legislature, it was Joe who stepped up in the eleventh hour to protect Akaku,” April continues about the honoree.

Festivities will be broadcast live on Oceanic Time Warner Cable Akaku channels 53, 54 and 55.
