• Watercolor painting for beginners classes with H. Lee Shapiro will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays in Kihei. For information, call 268-1000.

• Dog obedience classes. Maui Obedience Club is hosting dog obedience classes starting Tuesday, 5 to 6 p.m. in Makawao. Cost is $50 for eight-week series. For more information and to register, call 572-0671.

• Business workshops. The following County of Maui Mayor’s Office of Economic Development workshops will be held at Maui County Business Resource Center, Maui Mall, Suite B-9. To reserve a seat, call 270-5770. Workshops are free unless otherwise noted.

** “Business Pitching the Hollywood Way — The Business of Story, and Vice Versa” with Michael Feit Dougan will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. This intensive workshop will provide the intellectual tools and the creative templates to enable participants to fashion their own business pitch fast. In addition to the pitch formula, pitch psychology, strategy and outlines on research and strategic targeting will be offered. Business hopefuls will be invited to present their project and receive feedback.

** “How to be a Successful Entrepreneur” with Wayne Wong will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Hawai’i Small Business Development Center will present this informational workshop in which participants will learn about entrepreneurship, key ingredients for business success, steps involved in starting a business and sources of capital. Participants will be introduced to services offered by Hawai’i SBDC as well as other resources for the start-up business. For more information, call 875-5990.

** “How to Have Your Best Season Ever!” with Mckenna Hallett will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday. Participants will learn how to select just the right offer for their ideal audience; create a quick and effective promotional plan; design an offer that stands out; reach new customers and spread the word using social media; and keep the holiday momentum going through the new year and beyond.

• Gardening class. Anne Gachuhi of the Home Gardening Support Network will conduct a class titled “Successful Tropical Fruits Orchard Management” from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Lumeria Maui, Makawao. This session will cover information on choosing the right varieties of the specific tropical fruits to grow in your location, soil amendments to use, planting procedures, fertilization schedules, proper pruning techniques and harvesting.
