The Westin Nanea Ocean Villas in Kaanapali is Maui's newest resort. On Monday it will present its first culinary event. Pig & Bourbon will be smokin' hot from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the resort's Mauka Makai restaurant.
"Join us at Mauka Makai for a savory and spirited experience that promotes Maui's local farming heritage and agricultural community," says Executive Chef Ikaika Manaku. "I have a great relationship with farmers and cattlemen and I bought a hog and a steer at a recent 4-H event."
At Pig & Bourbon, Manaku will showcase specialty pork dishes such as bourbon-cured ham; trotter shabu shabu; pork and ahi, which is fast becoming a signature item; honey-bourbon Japanese cheesecake and more.
The event dishes feature livestock raised by Joshua Fernandez and his "ohana," or "family," with support from 4-H Maui. The dishes will be paired with fine bourbon selections from the Beam Suntory family, which include Maker's Mark, Knob Creek, Yamazaki and other spirits.
"It is great to support the 4-H as they are the future farmers of Hawaii," says Manaku. "In August, we'll present the Ocean Vodka and Potatoes dinner.
Pork & Bourbon is open to those 21 and older. Cost is $65 per person. For more information or for reservations, call the resort at 662-6300.
