1944 -- Maui County schools will revive one of the traditions of prewar Hawaii over the weekend and add a touch of the wartime at a series of Lei Day programs. In connection with the Lei Day programs, Series E War Bonds sold from Monday through Wednesday will carry a souvenir decorative Lei Day stamp.

1969 -- By a 7 to 1 vote Monday, the Maui County Council threw its support behind a proposed land swap that would give the State title to the entire Maui Community College site and 189 acres at Pauwela in exchange for 1,875 old Puunene Airport acres, which would go to Alexander & Baldwin, Inc.

1994 -- Hawaii Government Employee Association members gathered across Maui County in the state this morning to vote on a settlement offer aimed at ending a government worker strike that could put some workers back on the job as soon as Saturday.
