Salute wonderful world of kites at Wo Hing Museum

April is National Kite Month and to celebrate, Lahaina Restoration Foundation is holding a Chinese Kite Festival from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 26 at Wo Hing Museum and Cookhouse at 858 Front St. in Lahaina.
During the festival, kites representing traditional and modern styles from around the world will be on display. Unique kites will be available for purchase.
Dr. Busaba Yip Douglas and Kite Master Robert Loera will present talks at 2 and 6 p.m. on Ancient Chinese Kites and the History of Modern Kites, respectively. Be sure not to miss the Ribbon & Fan Dance at 4 and 7 p.m.
From 3 to 8 p.m., kids of all ages can make their own kites. Materials and instruction will be provided. Anyone 10 years of age and older can try their hand at the ancient art of Chinese knotting and learn to play mahjong.
Then, bring the whole family to Lahaina Cannery Mall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 to fly kites at the open space lawn adjacent to the mall. At 10 a.m., Loera will attempt to break a world record by putting 50 kites into the air at one time.
At noon, kids can take part in the "Catch a Kite" race across the grassy lawn. Supplies and instruction will be available if attendees would like to make their own kites.
Admission to both events is free as is admission to the museum for the week of Monday, April 22 through Friday, April 26.
