Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center presents two educational and informational events this week.
In preparation for Malama Wao Akua, its annual juried exhibit opening Sept. 13, Hui No'eau will hold an "Exhibition Information Session" from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. Held by the East Maui Watershed Partnership, this info session will explain what "Native to Maui Nui" means for those artists interested in entering this exhibit.
Artwork should be successful in sharing knowledge of watersheds and native species in a meaningful way. Artwork will be selected based upon a number of criteria including originality of concept, creativity, technique, professionalism and presentation. Works in any medium are welcome.
EMWP will share ideas on how to research species and find acceptable ones for the show. Plenty of resources will be available if needed to find inspiration.
For more information about the juried show or EMWP, visit malamawaoakua.org.
Visiting artist Rita Sabler will meet and talk story with the audience at Thursday's Community Coffee Hour from 10 to 11 a.m.
Sabler has spent years trotting the globe, documenting her travels and discovered wonders in her sketchbooks. She has been teaching Urban Sketching courses at Pacific Northwest College of Art, a private fine arts and design college in Portland, Ore. Her lectures and workshops on sketching have inspired diverse audiences to cultivate a lifelong passion for urban drawings.
