The Maui Humane Society is seeking short-term foster homes for dogs and cats.

Nancy Willis, Humane Society director of development and community outreach, recently reported that the animal shelter in Puunene had almost 40 dogs in-house, with several more already in foster care.

"We continue to pair up dogs and move them around to make additional space, however fosters would really help so they can free up the kennels as we continue to receive dogs daily," she explained.

In addition, it's kitten season, and volunteers are needed to foster and care for these tiny bundles of furry love.

The Humane Society will provide all supplies and information needed to become a foster home. For more information on becoming a foster home, email aloha@mauihumanesociety.org, call 877-3680, ext. 3; or visit the shelter between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily. The Humane Society website is www.mauihumanesociety.org.

The Maui Humane Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has been in existence for 66 years and is the only open admission animal shelter on the island of Maui. Each year MHS helps thousands of animals, taking in over 6,000 animals to the shelter and serving many times that number through community outreach programs

The shelter is located off Maui Veterans Hwy. at Mehameha Loop.
