1944 -- When Capt. Jack Hifuo Mizuha, a veteran of the Italian campaign, arrives on Maui he will become the first AJA soldier to return here from combat in Italy.

1969 -- New seven-digit telephone numbers will go into effect in Maui County, Ernest L. Halford, Hawaiian Telephone island manager announced. Coincident with the number conversion, Lahaina-Napili customers will no longer need to dial the prefix "9" outside their dialing area.
