1919 -- At the meeting of the fair commission yesterday, plans for the new grandstands on the racetrack and the bleachers were approved, and work was started immediately on the erection of the stands.

1944 -- Maui's war casualty toll rose to 57 dead and 121 wounded when eight more Valley Isle soldiers were killed in action and nine others wounded, the war department notified next of kin here this week.
