100 Years Ago

1919 -- A 397-avoirdupois black-and-white wild pig, the possessor of tusks 3 inches long, was shot and killed late Tuesday in the deepest recesses of Waikapu Valley. Many are the tales told concerning this one particular pig, which during the past three years has roamed about in the valley.

75 Years Ago

1944 -- Butch and Pete and Duke and a lot of other dogs whose pedigrees are short but who hold a world of affection from servicemen stationed on Maui will come into their own for a day when the Haiku USO club stages its pet show in conjunction with National Dog Week.

50 Years Ago

1969 -- Camp Maui Detachment of the Marine Corps League is hosting "about 15" Vietnam war-wounded servicemen who have been recuperating at Tripler Army Hospital on Oahu this weekend.

1994 -- Developers lead the herd of cash cows accounting for major contributions toward pre-primary campaigns for the Maui County Council.

2009 -- An engineer, a Maui County inspector and a project manager all said there were no major problems during construction at the Fairways at Maui Lani subdivision, countering early testimony in a 2nd-Circuit Court civil trial by nearby homeowners who described damage from dust and vibrations as a gulch was filled with tons of dirt.
