100 Years Ago

1919 -- The old frame building on the east side of High Street, occupied up to a few years ago by the Maui Publishing Co., was torn down this week and the material taken to Kihei by Frank Sommerfield, who will use it in the construction of a house.

75 Years Ago

1944 -- Lieut. Jack Boyum of Hamakuapoko, a Navy fighter pilot, celebrated the birth of his first daughter somewhat tardily by participating in the carrier-based attack on Formosa and being credited with the destruction of one enemy plane.

50 Years Ago

1969 -- A warning was issued to Maui's nude sunbathers by Judge S. George Fukuoka just before he fined one young woman $75. The judge said he wanted it to be known that he was not going to be lenient with persons found guilty of a common nuisance charge of indecent exposure.

25 Years Ago

1994 -- More than three dozen Mauians attended an informational meeting Tuesday about a second commercial harbor. Not all spoke, but none of those who did speak supported a second harbor.

10 Years Ago

2009 -- The story last week that the wind farm at Ulupalakua Ranch may be in operation here in 2012 was very good news indeed.
