1919 -- Horsemen are enthusiastic over the outlook for the big New Year's race meet to be held at the Kahului track. Everything points to this being the biggest and most interesting racing event ever held on Maui.

75 Years Ago

1944 -- A capacity crowd filled the Kahului USO club Sunday and overflowed onto the sidewalk for a Talent Hour show that was a return performance for many entertainers who had appeared on earlier shows.

50 Years Ago

1969 -- It's off-season time at Maui's three sugar plantations. The output for 1969 total 268, 857 tons at Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company, Pioneer Mill Company and Wailuku Sugar Company.

1994 -- Gov. Ben Cayetano plans to study the legality of selling ceded lands for the master-planned Villages of Leialii housing project in West Maui before construction can begin.
