School announces classes for April

The Transformation School of Ministry has a change of schedule for its April classes, according to an announcement.

The first class will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 4, followed by classes from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 5, and 4 to 7:30 p.m. April 6. This month’s subject is “Evangelism and Outreach,” which will be taught by Bill Terry, the president of Advantage College.

The classes will be held at the Wailuku Door of Faith Church. Tuition for degree students is $150 per quarter and $50 per quarter for audit students.

Good Friday services set

Hope Chapel will hold its Good Friday services at 6 and 8 p.m. April 18, the church announced.

An Easter Sunrise service will be held at 6 a.m. April 20 on the church lawn, followed by services at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. inside the church. Light refreshments will be served after each service.

Children’s ministry will not be available during the 8 p.m. Good Friday service.

The church is at 300 Welakahao Road in Kihei.

Hanamatsuri event to be held April 6

The Maui Hanamatsuri Association will hold its annual Hanamatsuri event April 6 at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku, according to an announcement.

The event begins with a 9 a.m. service, followed by games, prizes, entertainment and a potluck lunch. The celebration is open to the public.

Hanamatsuri commemorates the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha 2,500 years ago. It is one of the most-celebrated observances in Buddhism.

Passover Seder service set for April 13

Grace Church’s Passover Seder service will be held at 5 p.m. April 13, according to an announcement.

The church is at 55 Makaena Road in Pukalani, across from King Kekaulike High School.

‘A Chosen Vessel’ presentation Sunday

Door of Faith Church will host Alan Shore, a National Ministry representative with Chosen People Ministries, at 6 p.m. Sunday for a free dramatic presentation titled “A Chosen Vessel: the Life and Legacy of the Apostle Paul.”

The 50-minute play, set in the prison where Paul is awaiting execution, is a recollection of his life and ministry that is completely faithful to the record of the Scripture, according to an announcement.

“Through this presentation, you will join Paul on the road to Damascus and share the moment that would change his life forever. You will journey to the cities where he and his companions proclaim the life-giving Word of Messiah,” it said.

Shore has had a variety of ministry-oriented vocations, including serving as a pastor and an instructor in biblical studies on the university level. He holds a master of divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif., and is working on a doctorate degree in modern Jewish history and culture.

‘United in Prayer Day’ event Saturday

Contemplative Outreach Hawaii will host a “United in Prayer Day” event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wailuku, according to an announcement.

In addition to prayer, there will be discussion and fellowship.

St. Joseph Mission Church Mass set

Mass will be celebrated at noon March 30 at the St. Joseph Mission Church in Kaupo, according to an announcement.

The Sacred Hearts Honors Choir will provide liturgical music, under the direction of Lori Ulman. The choir is made up of current and former students of Sacred Hearts School in Lahaina.

Hymns and Mass parts will be sung in English, Hawaiian and Spanish.

Fellowship and potluck will follow services.

The remote mission church has a Mass only when there is a fifth Sunday of the month, or four times a year.

The church is between Mileposts 33 and 34 on Piilani Highway.

‘A Course in Miracles’ to be offered

“A Course in Miracles” will be offered from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at Unity Church of Maui, according to an announcement.

The course’s goal is “happiness and peace.” Although the language of the course is that of traditional Christianity, it teaches a nonsectarian, nondenominational spirituality, the announcement said. The course is “a universal spiritual teaching, not a religion,” the announcement says. “It aims at removing the blocks to the awareness of love’s presence, which is your natural inheritance. The miracle is defined as the shift in perception from fear to love.”

Donations will be accepted.
