Free showing of ‘Frozen’ on Sunday

The movie “Frozen” will be shown at 6 p.m. Sunday during Pookela Church’s Family Film Night, the church announced.

The movie presentation is free, and there will be no charge for popcorn or water.

The church is at 200 Olinda Road in Makawao.

Vacation Bible school starts June 2

Ala Lani United Methodist Church will host a vacation Bible school for children 3 to 11 years old from June 2 to 6, according to an announcement.

School hours are from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the church located at 50 S. Papa Ave. in Kahului.

Titled “Workshop of Wonders: Imagine and Build with God Vacation Bible School,” the program allows students to “experience how the ordinary becomes extraordinary with God,” according to the announcement.

Activities include music, interactive Bible discussion, science, crafts, games and snacks.

Gatherings planned after weekend Mass

Christ the King Church will hold “Meet and Greet” gatherings after Mass this weekend.

Masses will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday and 6, 8 and 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday. Fellowship and light refreshments will be provided in the parish hall.

The church is at 20 W. Wakea Ave., on the corner of Puunene and Wakea avenues.

Expanded facilities to be dedicated

Kihei Lutheran Church will dedicate its newly expanded facilities during its 9 a.m. Sunday worship service, according to an announcement.

Participating in the service will be Bishop Murray Finck of the Pacifica Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

The project began in September and has added 3,500 square feet to the congregation’s worship area, as well as additional classrooms and an outside lanai.

The Sunday service will include the choir and the congregation’s hula group.

A potluck luncheon will follow, beginning at 11 a.m.

The church is on the corner of Piilani Highway and Moi Place.

Festival of Shavout services scheduled

The Jewish Congregation of Maui will celebrate Shavuot at Beit Shalom Synagogue with a number of upcoming events.

The Festival of Shavuot, or Festival of Weeks, celebrates the giving of the Torah. Services will begin at 6:30 p.m. June 3, followed by a light dairy meal and an exploration of various topics in the Torah. An assortment of community members will lead the discussions.

The recommended donation for the Festival of Weeks night meal is $18. Those planning to attend should contact the synagogue office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday by calling 874-5397. The deadline for reservations is May 30.

At 10 a.m. June 4, there will be a Shavuot service with a reading of the Ten Commandments from the Torah scrolls.

At 10 a.m. June 5, there will be another Shavuot service, including a reading of the Book of Ruth as well as a Yizkor memorial service.

The synagogue is at 634 Alulike St. in Kihei.

A Cup of Cold Water, an outreach ministry of the Episcopal Churches on Maui & Friends, will deliver meals Saturday morning with the Kiwanis Club of Kahului to homeless people in West Maui.

The all-volunteer outreach mission will begin a series of roving stops in the Ukumehame area at 8:30 a.m., followed by other stops in succession at Puamana off Honoapiilani Highway, the Lahaina Recreation Center/Lahaina Aquatic Center, the Holy Innocents Church area off Front Street, Banyan Tree Park, Lahaina Harbor, the Lahaina Library area, various other spots on Front Street, and Mala Wharf and Waiohuli Wayside Park off Honoapiilani Highway at around 11:30 a.m.

Specific times for food deliveries at various spots vary.

Participating churches include Pukalani Nazarene, St. Ann’s Catholic, Maria Lanakila Catholic, Grace Bible, New Hope and Keawela’i Congregational Church. St. Theresa Catholic Church in Kihei provides support.

Texas pastor to speak on Maui

Nationally known San Antonio pastor John Hagee and Alabama gospel singer and country music artist Karen Wheaton will take part in the King’s Cathedral “Celebrate Conference” May 23 to 25, according to an announcement.

Hagee is founder and president of John Hagee Ministries, which telecasts his radio and television teachings nationally, according to his ministries’ website. He is the founder and senior pastor of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio which reportedly has more than 20,000 active members.

The conference schedule is 7 p.m. May 23; 9 a.m. May 24; and 7 and 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. May 25. The events are free, except the session May 24. That event includes a meal and costs $19 for non-church attendees, $15 for King’s Cathedral members and $5 for children.

King’s Cathedral is at 777 Mokulele Highway in Kahului.

Pookela Church rummage sale set

Pookela Church will hold a rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Sale items will include household goods, arts and crafts supplies, clothing, baby items and furniture, linen, sports equipment, dishes, glassware and other items.

Proceeds will pay for the church’s missionary work in Indonesia, Japan, the United States, New Guinea, the Netherlands, India and other countries.

Vacation Bible program in Lahaina

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Lahaina will host a free five-day vacation Bible program called “Weird Animals!” from June 9 through 13, according to an announcement.

Each day runs from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The program is open to keiki from 4 to 12 years old.
