‘Love & Laughter: Date Night’ July 18
King’s Cathedral Maui will host “Love & Laughter: Date Night” with author and speaker Gary Smalley at 7 p.m. July 18.
Those attending the event are promised that they will laugh until their “sides bust,” according to an announcement.
At 7 and 9 a.m. July 20, Smalley will discuss “A Blessed Family,” and at 6 p.m. July 20 he’ll speak on “Making Love Last.”
All of the events are free, but there is a fee for child care.
The church is at 777 Mokulele Highway in Kahului.

Waipuna Chapel to host July 4 event
Waipuna Chapel will celebrate Independence Day from 4:30 p.m. until dark July 4 with family activities, including games, a water slide, shave ice, a balloon man, live music and a ground fireworks show at dark.
A barbecue/potluck dinner starts at 6 p.m. with free hot dogs and hamburgers. Participants are asked to bring a side dish, salad or dessert.
Waipuna Chapel is at the corner Kula Highway and Omaopio Road.

Jim Caviezel to speak Sunday
Actor Jim Caviezel, who starred as Jesus in Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of Christ” in 2004, will share his faith at 6 p.m. Sunday at King’s Cathedral.
Caviezel’s other acting credits include CBS’ “Person of Interest” and starring roles in “The Count of Monte Cristo” in 2002 and “The Thin Red Line” in 1998.
Admission is free. The church is at 777 Mokulele Highway in Kahului.

Youth Fun Day weekend scheduled
The Maui Vicariate Youth and Young Adult Ministry Board will present “Let The SON Shine In” Youth Fun Day on July 12 and 13 at St. Theresa Church in Kihei.
It will be a weekend of faith, fellowship, food and fun for youths 14 to 18 years old.
Those planning to participate should register with their respective parish youth ministry leaders by Tuesday. There’s a $10 registration fee.

Paia mission obon service, dance set
Mantokuji Mission of Paia will continue its tradition of holding obon services and dances July 11 and 12, according to an announcement.
Services begin at 6 p.m. in the temple. Maui Taiko will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, and Zenshin Daiko will take the stage at the same time Saturday. Bon dance follows from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Food booths will open at 6:30 p.m.
Obon is the annual summer festival held at Buddhist temples in remembrance of deceased loved ones.
