Maui churches collecting gifts
Four Maui churches are serving as collection sites through Monday for shoebox gifts for children in need.
Empty shoeboxes may be filled with toys, school supplies, hygiene items and notes of encouragement, according to an announcement.
Participating churches and collection times and days include:
* Lahaina Baptist Church, 209 Shaw St.; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Saturday; 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday; and 9 a.m. to noon Monday.
* Hope Chapel Kihei, 300 E. Welakahao Road; 5 to 8 p.m. today; 9 a.m. to noon Saturday; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday; and 9 to 11 a.m. Monday.
* Grace Bible Church, 635 Hina Ave., Kahului; 6 to 8 p.m. today; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday.
* Waipuna Chapel, 17 Omaopio Road, Kula; 4 to 7 p.m. today; noon to 3 p.m. Saturday; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday; and 9 a.m. to noon Monday.
The shoebox collection project is part of Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelical organization that aims to deliver gift-filled shoeboxes to children around the world, according to an announcement.

Thanksgiving Day joint service set
Kihei Lutheran Church will offer a special joint Thanksgiving Day worship service with the Kihei Tongan United Methodist Mission at 10 a.m. Thursday, according to an announcement.
The service will include Holy Communion as well as the anthem “I Love You, Lord,” by 4-Given, a men’s quartet, and a choir anthem by the Methodist congregation’s choir.
At noon, the two congregations will hold a Thanksgiving potluck luau. The day’s activities will conclude with the decorating of the worship area for the Advent/Christmas season starting at 1:30 p.m.

Service, potluck dinner offered
Keawala’i Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, will hold its annual Thanksgiving Day service at 11 a.m. Thursday in the church sanctuary.
A potluck dinner will follow at noon with turkey and trimmings. Church members, friends and visitors are invited to bring a side dish to share. Drinks, plates, napkins and utensils will be provided.

At 6:30 p.m. Nov. 30, the church will hold an Advent service, “Before This Fleeting Season.” The evening will feature the adult choir, Na Leo Nahenahe, under the direction of Stephen Haines and the members of the Music Ministry Team, including Danny Brown and Ellen Caringer.

Kaupo church to hold Mass Nov. 30
Mass will be celebrated at noon Nov. 30 at the St. Joseph Mission Church in Kaupo.
Fellowship and potluck will follow a Mass.
The remote mission church has a Mass only when there is a fifth Sunday of the month, or four times a year.
The church is between Mileposts 33 and 34 on Piilani Highway.

Thanksgiving Mass announced
St. Theresa Church will celebrate an international Thanksgiving Mass at 9 a.m. Thursday, the church announced.
The service is an international Mass because the readings and universal prayers will be read in different languages.
Also, Hale Kau Kau will serve a Thanksgiving lunch at noon for people in need.
The church is at 25 W. Lipoa St. in Kihei.

Thanksgiving service scheduled
The Church of Christ, Scientist, will hold its Thanksgiving service at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church at 160 W. Kamehameha Ave., across from the Kahului Library.
Families are welcome and child care will be provided for preschool-age children.
