‘Buddha’s Birthday’ event on Tuesday
The public is invited to join the Maui Tibetan Buddhist Dharma Center in celebration of “Buddha’s Birthday” on Tuesday’s full-moon evening, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Great Paia Lha Bab Peace Stupa.
The ceremony will take place outside around the Peace Stupa, where the Venerable Lama Gyaltsen will lead the service with special guest participation from other Buddhist leaders in the community.
The Peace Stupa will be adorned with hundreds of lights as a reminder of the Buddha’s teaching on loving kindness and compassion. A tribute will be made to His Holiness the 14th Dali Lama, who turns 80 on July 6, for his tireless efforts in promoting world peace through nonviolence and for his work in advocating harmony and friendship among all world religions.
The evening service will be dedicated to the relief of suffering and devastation from recent earthquakes that stuck Nepal. Donations will be accepted for this purpose.
The Dharma Center is located at 81 Baldwin Ave. This event is free of charge. Birthday cake and other food offerings will be served. For more information about this gathering and other events scheduled for Saga Dawa, contact the center at 579-8076 or mauidharma@earthlink.net.
