Buddha Fest activities Oct. 24
Kahului Hongwanji will present Buddha Fest 2015 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 24 at the mission at 291 S. Puunene Ave.
This event is open to everyone. The deadline to register is Oct. 9.
Buddha Fest is funded in memory of the late Henry S. Tasaka. Its focus is to make learning about the dharma interesting for people of all ages and will explore the many different aspects of Buddhism and what it can do to help one find meaning and joy in daily life.
Not a lecture or long seminar, Buddha Fest will offer a variety of talks, discussions and activities for adults, and meaningful games and fun for children. The day will culminate with lunch, a vegetarian Dharma Feast, with time for fellowship and discussion.
Topics for adults will include “What is Buddhism?” “Living and Eating with Compassion and Wisdom,” “Joyful Song – Buddhist Gathas” and “Buddhist Living in a Troubled World.”
Programs for children will include “The Game of Dharma Life” and “Indra’s Net.”

Retreat about God, centering prayer
“Never Alone,” a retreat about God and centering prayer, will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 10 at Trinity by the Sea Episcopal Church, 100 Kukanihakoi St. in Kihei.
Topics to be explored include: “Who and where is God?” “Why am I here?” and “What does centering prayer have to do with this?”
Brother Jim Vorndran will facilitate the program. Participants may bring a brown bag lunch. There is no fee to participate.

Jodo Buddhists plan joint service Sunday
Maui Jodo Buddhists from Kahului, Wailuku and Lahaina Jodo missions will gather for their annual joint service and fellowship at the Lahaina Jodo Mission on Sunday.
The service will begin at 10 a.m. with Lahaina Jodo Mission resident minister the Rev. Gensho Hara delivering a dharma talk. President Donald Fujii will give a welcome message.
Lahaina Jodo Mission is at 12 Ala Moana St.
Jodo Buddhism, also known as Pure Land Buddhism, was established in 1175 in Japan. Following the teachings of the Buddha, Jodo Buddhists chant “Namu Amida Butsu,” asking Amida Buddha, the Buddha of wisdom and compassion, for guidance and inspiration. Everyone is welcome.

Healing Mass at St. Anthony on Tuesday
St. Anthony Church’s Healing Mass will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church center in Wailuku.
The church invites everyone to attend its Healing Mass, which will include individual blessings with laying on of hands.

Blessing of animals Sunday in Kihei
The life of St. Francis of Assisi, known as the patron saint of animals and the environment, will be celebrated by the blessing of animals at 1 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Kihei.
A hot dog picnic lunch will be served.
Trinity Church has an open-air sanctuary among the ruins and gardens of the historic church founded by Hawaiian scholar David Malo in 1852. It is at 100 Kulanihakoi St. in Kihei, midway between the 800 block of South Kihei Road and Piilani Highway.
