Ministers invited to planning meeting

Christian ministers are invited to a planning meeting for the annual Easter Sunrise Service at War Memorial Stadium.

A luncheon meeting will take place at noon Tuesday at the Faith In Jesus Church, formerly know as the Wailuku Door of Faith Church, on Waiehu Beach Road in Wailuku. All churches that would like to participate may send a pastor or representative. To make a reservation, call 244-1286 by today.

The Easter Sunrise Service has been sponsored for over 30 years by the Maui Christian Ministers Association and the Kiwanis Club of Maui.

Religious history class to be offered

Transformation School of Ministries will be having classes from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 6 at Faith in Jesus Church, 432 Waiehu Beach Road in Wailuku.

Brenda Grasty of North Carolina will be teaching Pentecostal/Charismatic History. The class is free for first-time students and $50 for audit students for three months.

Mass to take place at church in Kaupo

Father Arwin Rebollido, pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Hana, will celebrate Mass at St. Joseph Church in Kaupo at noon Jan. 31.

Services take place at the remote church when there is a fifth Sunday in the month.

The church is between Mile Markers 33 and 34 on Piilani Highway, the road to Kaupo.

There will be fellowship and a potluck meal after Mass.

Tondo Matsuri at Jinsha Mission

The Rev. Akihiro Okada of the Daijingu Temple of Hawaii will perform a Tondo Matsuri service and blessing at Maui Jinsha Mission, 472 Lipo St. in Wailuku at 10 a.m. Jan. 30.

Attendees may bring their old oharaisama and omamori to burn. New Year’s mochi and lunch will be served.

Bahai convention meets in Makawao

The District Convention for the Bahais of Maui was held Jan. 9 at the Maui Bahai Center in Makawao.

Delegates chosen to attend the national Bahai Convention in Honolulu on April 23 and 24 were Jack Spock, Margaret Matsumoto, Warren Haynes, Anna Helenowski, Emiko Joy and Doreen Hobdy. The alternates are Elaine Reneau and Harry Smau.

Delegates will vote for nine members of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahais of the Hawaiian Islands.

According to an announcement, the National Assembly is separate from the Assembly of the U.S., because it believes that Hawaii is its own nation. Bahai elections are run without political campaigning.
