Guest pastors teach at Wailuku church
Transformation School of Ministries at Faith in Jesus Church (formerly Door of Faith Wailuku) at 432 Waiehu Beach Road in Wailuku will be hosting Pastor John Youell, accompanied by his wife, Pastor Anne Youell, on Wednesday, Thursday and Aug. 6. They will be teaching on the “Spiritual Disciplines of a Leader.”
Classes will be held Wednesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and Aug. 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a potluck luncheon.
This first introductory class is free. The normal Bible school tuition is $150 per quarter for degree students; audit students pay $50 per quarter; and students who already have their associate degrees pay $30 per quarter.

Bishop to visit Trinity Episcopal
The Rt. Rev. Robert L. Fitzpatrick will celebrate the Holy Eucharist at 9 a.m. Sunday at Trinity Episcopal Church by the Sea in Kihei. Concelebrants will be Vicar Bruce DeGooyer and newly ordained priest John Hau’oli Tomoso. A brunch will immediately follow the service in honor of the bishop’s visitation.

Wailuku obon event begins tonight
Wailuku Hongwanji will have its annual obon event tonight and Saturday. Each evening will begin with a Hatsubon service starting at 6:45. This service is intended to respect those members of Wailuku Hongwanji who have died over the last year. Resident minister the Rev. Shinkai Murakami will be delivering the Hatsubon sermon at the services.
The bon dance will begin at 8 p.m. In addition to the festive and colorful dancing, there will be food items for sale prepared by Cub Pack 40, Scout Troop 40, the judo club, Wailuku Roselani 4-H and the Buddhist Women’s Association. Games for children will be offered by the Dharma School. Those interested in visiting Wailuku Hongwanji’s historic temple during the evening are welcome.

Christian Women to host brunch
There will be a free women’s brunch from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Faith in Jesus Church at 432 Waiehu Beach Road in Wailuku. The speaker will be Barbara Ferraro, head of the Hawaii Chapter of Concerned Women for America and also Young Women for America. This Christian Women of Maui County brunch is open to both men and women.
Also on the program will be two women who will introduce themselves and their ministries:
* Paula Higuchi, Biblical Counseling Center of Maui.
* Maile Kekona Tsurusato, Neighborhood Place of Wailuku.

Backpack blessing set in Makawao
Makawao Union Church will hold its annual “Blessing of the Backpacks” during the 10:30 a.m. worship on Sunday. The blessing marks the beginning of the new school year and reminds the children and youth that they continue their journey in education with God’s care and the community’s support.
Students are reminded to bring a backpack or book bag. The church will also recognize teachers, honoring their ministry in educating young people. All are welcome.
