Christmas choir to perform Sunday

The Maui Philippine Baptist Church in Kahului will give a choir presentation titled "Christmas: We Remember, Rejoice, Worship" at 7 p.m. Sunday.

The church is at 309 S. Puunene Ave. The public is invited.

Christmas services set at St. John's

St. John's Episcopal Church in Kula will have the following Christmas Eve services:

* 4 p.m. -- Lesson and carols with communion.

* 8 p.m. -- Candlelight Eucharist.

* 10:30 p.m. -- Candlelight Eucharist.

On Christmas Day, there will be an 8:30 a.m. Eucharist. There will be no Sunday school or nursery on Christmas Day.

Holiday services listed at Waipuna

Waipuna Chapel will host Christmas Eve services at 4, 6 and 8 p.m. Each family-oriented service will feature special Christmas music, carol-singing and a message of Christmas hope from Pastor Shaun Waite.

A program for children up to age 5 will be provided at the 4 and 6 p.m. services. Light refreshments will follow each service.

On Christmas Day, there will be one service at 11 a.m.

On New Year's Day, there will be one outdoor service at 11 a.m., which will include a baptism followed by a potluck lunch.

Waipuna Chapel is located at 17 Omaopio Road in Kula, at the corner of Kula Highway and Omaopio Road.

Candlelight service set at Kihei Baptist

A "Carols by Candlelight" service will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. at Kihei Baptist Chapel on Christmas Eve.

There will be seasonal music, the Christmas story, an inspirational message and carols by candlelight. At 10 a.m. Christmas Day there will be a worship service.

St. Joseph Church announces Masses

St. Joseph Church in Makawao has announced its Christmas and New Year's service schedule.

A Christmas (Holy Day of Obligation) Vigil Mass will take place at 5 and 10 p.m. Dec. 24. There will also be a children and youth Mass at 7 p.m. in the church Dec. 24.

A midnight Mass on Dec. 24 will be followed by Masses at 7 a.m., 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Christmas Day.

There will be a New Year's Vigil Mass at 5 p.m. Dec. 31.

Masses on New Year's Day will be at 7 a.m., 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The church is at 1294 Makawao Ave.

Iao UCC sets Blue Christmas service

The winter solstice is the occasion for a Blue Christmas service at Iao United Church of Christ at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

This service of worship in the season of Christmas is intended for, among others, those who wish to worship Christ but whose hearts are not filled with the gaiety that usually accompanies worship in this season.

Many have suffered loss of one kind or another. Others may simply want a quiet, more reflective service as their preferred way to experience Christmas. All are welcome to attend.

Church planning a Hawaiian Christmas

"A Hawaiian Christmas Lullaby" is the theme for this year's Christmas Eve candlelight service at Keawala'i Congregational Church in Makena. The service will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the grounds of the church.

Members of Na Leo Nahenahe, the adult choir, will be singing "Christmas Lullaby" by John Rutter. Maui Singsation, under the direction of Marti Kluth, will be singing a medley of Christmas carols, including "Mary's Little Boy Child," "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and "The Little Drummer Boy." Special guest Jamie Lawrence will share his music.

Those planning to attend are invited to bring a single-stem flower or lei for two outdoor floral Christmas trees. Seating will be provided for 800. Parking will be available in the church overflow parking lot and along the lower beach road and Honoiki Road. Parking monitors will direct cars into the overflow parking lot.

St. Theresa Church sets schedule

St. Theresa Church in Kihei has released its Advent and Christmas schedule.

A nine-day Novena will be held at 5 a.m. daily from today through Dec. 24, with the exception of Sunday, when Mass will be celebrated at 7 a.m.

Mass will be held at 7 a.m. weekdays, 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Hispanic Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Saturday.

A parish Advent penance service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The Christmas Eve Mass schedule is 6 and 9 p.m. and midnight. (There will be no reconciliation on that day and no 5:30 p.m. regular Mass or 7 p.m. Hispanic Mass.

On Christmas Day, Masses will be celebrated at 7 and 9:30 a.m. There will be no 5:30 p.m. Mass.

On New Year's Eve, there will be no reconciliation. An English-language Mass will be held at 5:30 p.m. and a Spanish-language Mass at 7 p.m.

On New Year's Day, Masses celebrating the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God, will be held at 7 and 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Reconciliation will be offered at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 7.

On Jan. 7 and 8, there will be a Mass celebrating the Epiphany of the Lord at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and at 7 and 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Spanish-speaking Mass will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday.

A Mass celebrating the Baptism of the Lord will be held at 7 a.m. Jan. 9.
