Courses offered on the New Testament
The Transformation School of Ministries at the Faith in Jesus Church on Waiehu Beach Road begins the new year with two courses that will cover the entire New Testament.
Bob Cook of Dallas will teach the four Gospels from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 14.
In February, Steve Brown of Oklahoma will teach the rest of the New Testament from the book of Acts to Revelation.

FACE sets MLK interfaith service
Faith Action for Community Equity, a grass-roots, interfaith nonprofit organization, will sponsor the fifth annual Martin Luther King Interfaith Service from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Kahului. The keynote speaker will be Rick Blangiardi, general manager of Hawaii News Now, KGMB (CBS) and KHNL (NBC).
FACE will also recognize Maude Cummings, executive director of Family Life Center, by presenting her with the Kilo Hoku award for her unwavering faith and social justice work in the community, according to an announcement.
Dinner follows the service.

Coptic dignitary will lead holy liturgy
His Eminence Metropolitan Serapion, first hierarch and bishop of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Los Angeles, Southern California and Hawaii, will visit Maui for the first time to lead the Holy Liturgy at Sacred Heart Church, 500 Office Road in Kapalua, from 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 13. The public is welcome Refreshments will be served after the service.

Baha'i sponsors prayer gatherings
There will be a three-month series of interfaith prayer gatherings sponsored by the Baha'i Faith beginning at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 15 at the Bahai Center, 3574 Kekahi Place, Makawao. Themes through Feb. 12 are:
* Jan. 15 -- Help and Assistance from God
* Jan. 22 -- Cultivate the Good
* Jan. 29 -- Spiritual Growth
* Feb. 5 -- The Meaning of Faith
* Feb. 12 -- Heaven and Hell
Baha'is believe in world unity, peace and harmony of all humanity. Readings from various religions will be included, followed by music, discussion and light refreshments.
