Visiting rabbi to lead discussion
The Jewish Congregation of Maui is hosting Jerusalem's Rabbi Gedaliah Fleer as a scholar-in-residence. He will lead a discussion from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday titled "Faith, Prayer and Self-expression" at the Jewish Congregation of Maui, 634 Alukike St. in Kihei. There is a suggested $65 donation.
Fleer is acknowledged by the Encyclopedia Judaica as one of today's leading authorities on Jewish mysticism. He is a world-renowned expert on the teachings of the Hasidic master Rebbe Nachman of Breslov, great-grandson of the Baal Shem Tov.

Omamori available for annual service
Wailuku Shingon Mission will be have its Hoshimatsuri service at 6 p.m. Feb. 3 at 1939 North St. in Wailuku.
Hoshimatsuri is the ancient ritual of praying for one's fortunes. Hoshimatsuri omamori will be made available and blessed during the service. There will also be a lucky number drawing after the service.
People interested in purchasing a personal omamori (amulet) for $5 each are requested to provide the name and birthdate of each person who would like an omamori. Contact the church at wailukushingon@gmail.com with the information as soon as possible so it can be prepared by Feb. 3.

New Kula church meets on Saturdays
Bible Truth Ministries is a new church that meets at 10 a.m. Saturdays at 2055 Naalae Road in Kula. The weekly gatherings include a music service, Bible study and vegetarian potluck lunch.
The church's mission is to share God's love and light and be a witness of the Gospel to others by declaring that Jesus Christ is Lord.
