Makena Beach & Golf Resort’s famed Sushi Bar is back for a limited time through Jan. 9 in the former Hakone restaurant space.
Nightly hours are from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and seating is very limited and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations taken.
Veteran sushi chefs Ivan Bersamin and Tom Kamijo will dazzle you with Japanese appetizers, nigiri sushi and rolls and assorted sakes. Crunch into the award-winning Hurricane Ivan Roll packed with both shrimp and hamachi tempura, avocado and cucumber. Or opt for the “I No Like Fish” roll made with avocado, cucumber, lettuce, daikon and konpyo squash.
On New Year’s Eve, Makena Beach & Golf Resort will ring in 2015 with the Tapas Buffet and Ball Drop Party with live disco-style music featuring Jimi Canha and the power trio Paradyse. Here’s something fun to do either as a package or as a la carte experiences. The Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa in Kaanapali will present the Table to Farm Dinner and Tour next week.
The interactive experience kicks off Sunday at the hotel with a five-course farm dinner. Led by Executive Chef Greg Gaspar, Executive Sous Chef Raymond Nicasio and Sous Chef Les Barayuga, the dinner features Maui grown ingredients along with hand-selected wine pairings and a talk-story session. On Monday morning, you may take a private tour to the Dragonfruit Farm in Launiupoko to see firsthand how it operates. The team of chefs will conduct a cooking demonstration in the field and then prepare lunch. The next Table to Farm events will be held March 20 and 21. Call 661-0031.
Want to enjoy a nice sit-down dinner in Kaanapali on New Year’s Eve? From 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., the Pulehu, An Italian Grill at Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas will present a five-course dinner with cauliflower panna cotta, roasted quail with foie gras and truffle stuffing, and local spiny lobster Bolognese. Every last Friday of the month, the Plantation House in Kapalua is jumping with its new Beats and Eats promo. Chef Jojo Vasquez teams with wife and DJ Eliza Escano for the fabulously fun party that lights up the restaurant’s Bar Nineteen.
“The sunset event from 5 to 8 p.m. combines our passion for food and music,” says Vasquez, who creates a pop-up menu of elegant appetizers and artisanal cocktails. Desserts are created by Plantation House’s up-and-coming pastry phenom, Chef Yi Song. Escano plays a set that begins with a mellow soulful vibe that eventually turns up the dance floor heat. The new Montage Kapalua Bay will present four-course and six-course tasting menus for New Year’s Eve in the Cane & Canoe restaurant. Andaz Maui resort in Wailea’s Ka’ana Kitchen will be jumping for New Year’s Eve with seatings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. The price of $175 per person includes dinner by Chef de Cuisine Isaac Bancaco, a glass of bubbly and entrance to the Maoli & Mahe concert and dance party and a sparkling toast at midnight.
