UNO, DOS, TRES . . . Come and count Super Bowl touchdowns on the big screen in the Surf Lounge at Three’s Bar & Grill in Kihei this weekend.

The happy-hour menu features game-day favorites like Three’s habanero-honey chipotle wings, kalua-pork nachos, draft beer and $5 whiskeys, such as Jameson, Jim Beam and Fireball cinnamon.

Three’s will also celebrate five successful business years on Feb. 5 with 25 percent off breakfast, lunch and dinner and 25 percent of the day’s sales going to the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. It’s also the main caterer at ArT=Mixx at the MACC on Saturday.

“We have been truly honored to serve the food we love on the island we love,” says chef-owner Travis Morrin. “Our loyal patrons and dedicated team deserve a huge MAHALO for helping us reach this milestone.”

“We are grateful for the support we have received from our community over the past five years. We look forward to many more exciting years to come,” says chef-owner Jaron Blosser. The third partner is Cody Christopher, who brings a Southwestern taste to the table.

AROUND THE TOWN . . . Pizza always appeals to armchair quarterbacks and the new Bam’s Pizza located between Taco Bell and Ono Gelato at Azeka Plaza in Kihei is all the rage.

“I make all of the pizzas, Philly cheesesteaks and buffalo chicken cheesesteaks and will continue to expand the menu as the business grows,” says owner Brandon Leonetti, who had a pizza parlor in New Jersey. “I make the dough about four times daily and it’s a brick-oven crispy crust. The latest Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice is now located at a stand poolside at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa in Kaanapali.

Awarded five stars on Yelp and Tripadvisor, Ululani’s creates syrups using cane sugar, filtered water, purees, fruit juices and extracts of local ingredients. Its 50 flavors include coconut, pineapple, lilikoi and guava.

Named after the late, great Mexican self-portrait artist Frida Kahlo, Frida’s Beach House will open its doors from 5 to 8 p.m. this evening for a special benefit for Punana Leo O Maui Hawaiian language preschool.

Situated oceanfront in Lahaina next to sister restaurants Honu Seafood & Pizza and Mala Ocean Tavern, Frida’s is all about traditional Mexican food, along with Brazilian, Argentinian and Peruvian thrown in for fun.

“Frida’s is based on author Diane Kennedy’s Mexican cookbooks,” says owner-chef Mark Ellman. “They are all recipes from homes that she’s visited throughout Mexico and street food.”

“All of the meats are braised, like a Mexican grandma makes for comfort food. We’ll use some lard. But we’ll do the original Caesar salad from Tijuana,” adds Ellman. “And other salads like watermelon, jicama and avocado laced with queso fresco. Frida’s will open for regular dinner on Sunday and lunch soon afterwards.”

Hula Grill’s first Sunday music series in Kaanapali with Grammy winner John Keawe will run from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. this weekend as a lovely oceanfront lunchtime affair with cocktail specials and amazing Hula Grill pupu by Chef Bobby Masters.

Moana Bakery recently opened adjacent to its sister restaurant, Dazoo, in Paia with artisan breads, pastries and coffee drinks to go every day from 7 a.m. to noon. Some of the specialty breads are baguettes, Maui onion and dill loaf, wined walnut and challah. Some items are gluten free and vegan as well.

Slappy Cakes restaurant in Honokowai is part of a small franchise that was recently included in Food Networks’s “10 Meals of a Lifetime” program hosted by superstar Bobby Flay.

At Grand Wailea’s Celebrity Chef Tour last weekend, it was announced that Ryan Urig, formerly of Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay, and before that The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, is new executive chef at the resort.
