THE STACK IS BACK . . . It’s that time of year again and all-you-can-eat pancakes are back at participating IHOP restaurants, including the local favorite at Maui Mall in Kahului.
From now until Feb. 8, you may feast on all the famous buttermilk pancakes you want, and then top them with any combination of syrups.
Start with either five buttermilk cakes or a short stack of two with a combo plate of eggs, hash browns and choice of breakfast meats. Then, you can keep ’em coming until you are fully satisfied.
Also stacking up will be the crowds at the annual Willie K BBQ Blues Fest on Saturday at War Memorial Complex in Wailuku. There will not only be headliners like ZZ Top’s Billy F Gibbons and bluesman Taj Mahal, but a tall lineup of food vendors.
When Mahal croons songs like “Corinna” and “Six Days on the Road,” and Gibbons rips it up with “Sharp Dressed Man,” you can saddle up to Braddah Willy’s Sticky Ribs booth and enjoy some barbecue.
“The third annual blues fest will also feature food trucks and food vendors like Milagros Food Co., Dibs on da Ribs, Poi by the Pound, Two Chicks in a Hammock, Tacos Maui 8 Wonder and Tikiz Maui,” says Lyn Alpuro, helping with the promotion. For more details, see Maui Beat or Events.

AROUND THE TOWN . . . The hottest place to be for Maui’s food-and-beverage industry insiders, at least late at night on the second Saturday of every month, is the new Cow Pig Bun, tucked away at ground level in the Maui Research & Technology Park in Kihei.
That’s because at 11 p.m. Saturday, there will be another Knife Fight among top chefs on island. This time around, Sheldon Simeon of Mala Wailea and MiGRANT will compete against Lyndon Honda, who masterminds private events and catering on Maui.
“They compete against each other in the kitchen and the crowds have been amazing,” says owner Greg Shepherd, who has invited me to be a judge next month. “In February, it will be Chris Kulis of Capische? versus JoJo Vasquez of Plantation House.”
When Hyundai Tournament of Champions tees off with the Pro-Am today and tourney until Monday, throngs of eager spectators head to Kapalua to watch.
It’s the PGA season opener, and golfers will want to make time to attend. This year, Paradise Grill will cater in the Spectator Zone with three-clam chowder, Kobe beef chili, chicken Caesars, kalua pork sandwiches, and hot dogs and hamburgers.
But if you want to kick things up a notch and sit down in elegance overlooking the 18th hole, then buy a clubhouse ticket to dine at Plantation House Friday through Monday. It’s closed for the Pro-Am today, and is open for regular dinners throughout.

Joy’s Place in Kihei is offering three-day cleanse kits each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this month. Next up for pickup is Tuesday to Jan. 15, then Jan. 20 to 22 and from Jan. 27 to 29.
