READ BETWEEN THE WINES . . . A new party board game of wine wit and wordplay, “Read Between The Wines,” has hit store shelves and wine-loving players sip and scribble, and sip to win.

On Maui, wine dinners are coming out of the woodwork to entice us. Ruth’s Chris Steak House Wailea will host the Grgich Hills wine dinner at 6 p.m. Friday, July 24 with five pairing courses.

Highlights are pan-roasted crab cake with mango salsa, spicy shrimp margarita, endive-arugula salad, petite filet and chocolate sin cake. Grgich wines will flow. Cost is $125 per adult. Call 874-8880.

At 6:45 p.m. Friday, Longhi’s Wailea will entice with the Silk Road Discoveries wine dinner for $60 per person, hosted by guest Oahu Master Sommelier Patrick Okubo. Call 891-8883.

BITS AND PIECES . . . Looking for a unique dining experience? Maui Ocean Center in Maalaea will present a Night at the Reef: Incredible Corals from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Friday. Coffee, juices and tropical iced teas are included with admission and you may enjoy live music by Kalani Smythe and interact with marine naturalists, educators and guest speakers.

Available for purchase at the Reef Cafe will be ahi poke and teriyaki chicken bowls with rice and kim chee, chow fun, hamburgers and cheeseburgers and ranch steak fries. You may also buy ice cream, popsicles and tropical drinks such as the Coral Bloom with Pinnacle Tropical Vodka and POG, and beer, wines and selected pours. Reservations are recommended. Fustini’s Oils & Vinegars is hosting a party to celebrate the one-year anniversary of its Maui store and tasting room from 3 to 6 p.m. July 25 at The Shops at Wailea. The free event will feature music by Mele Ukulele, appetizers with Fustini’s oils and vinegars as well as door prizes with 10 percent of proceeds going to the Malama Family Recovery Center for moms and kids.

Calling all chefs and wannabes who wish to expand their culinary horizons. Grand Wailea chef Mike Lofaro and Hawaiian cultural ambassador Kainoa Horcajo have foraged and fished foods for their five-course Ka Malama Dinner at 6 tonight in the resort’s Humuhumunukunukuapua’a.

Based on the ancient Hawaiian moon calendar, the series this month is all about the new moon phase with dishes of starfruit, lemongrass, mango, lychee and hibiscus flowers. Beverage Manager Yeshua Goodman creates cocktail and wine pairings. Cost is $150 per person, including tax, tip and valet parking. Call 875-1234.

Lofaro heads out to the Pacific Northwest Friday to cook at a James Beard Celebrity Chef Tour dinner at Seattle Columbia Tower Club.

“I based my James Beard dish on what we are doing with the Ka Malama Dinner in Humu,” he says. “I researched the coastal tribes of the Pacific Northwest and what is available there, so my dish is called ‘Kai Momona,’ or ‘bountiful ocean,’ in Hawaiian.”

The Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce will host a July Business Talk Story at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Maui Tropical Plantation in Waikapu.
