The Cliff House that hangs over the water fronting the Montage Kapalua Bay will present Women in Wine from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday with Eileen Crane, founding winemaker of Domaine Carneros. Sip bubbly and nosh elegant pupu. Men are welcome and there will be live music, too. Cost is $50 in advance and $60 at the door. Mark your calendars for Boochfest from 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 31. Yes, that’s Halloween and it’s an annual benefit for Doorway to Light, Hawaii’s only nonprofit funeral home and resource center.

The scary event will be held at the Makawao Union Church Hall and will feature an open kombucha bar by Big Wave Kombucha and live music by DJ Ged along with Samba Maui dancers and drummers and the Komborera Marimba Band. The family-friendly event will offer prizes for best costumes. Donation is $20 and kids younger than 10 get in free. Call 575-7870.

At the ninth annual Hawaii Restaurant Association Hall of Fame banquet recently, only one deserved Mauian was inducted to greatness. That was Chef Gerard Reversade of Gerard’s, the famous French restaurant with an island twist at the Plantation Inn in Lahaina.

It’s all over social media that Taverna: Italian Eatery and Wine Bar will open at the former site of Vino and the Kapalua Adventure Center after the first of the year . . . and sorry to report that Ruby’s Diner at Queen Ka’ahumanu Center has closed.

Life Foods of Wailuku that makes probiotic sauerkraut and vegan burgers is set to open its cafe sometime around Thanksgiving, said a representative who was giving out samples at Mana Foods in Paia the other days. Speaking of sauerkraut, Brigit & Bernard’s continues Oktoberfest on Fridays and Saturdays until the end of the month. Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa is doing a German-themed dinner and beer pairing nightly.

The Daily Meal announces the 35 best sushi bars across America, and three in Hawaii made the grade. Of course, Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar made the list. It’s got multiple locations, including the original in Kapalua and one in Kihei. Sushi Paradise of Kihei was also tops along with Sushi Sasabune in Honolulu. Nobu of New York and Las Vegas sliced and diced its way to the top, too. I spoke with namesake Nobu Matsuhisa at the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival, and he told me that he’s targeting Nobu Lanai at Manele Bay to be up and running before the Christmas holidays.

Speaking of HFWF, co-chairman and celebrity chef Roy Yamaguchi will lead a tour to Tokyo and Tokachi in Japan from July 20 to 27 next summer. Call his Kaanapali restaurant for more details.

Island Gourmet Market that launched last month at The Shops at Wailea will present grand-opening festivities Oct. 24 with specials and poke sampling from its selection of 10 different types from fresh ahi to crab.

Tickets are still available to the Noble Chef benefit for Maui Culinary Academy on Saturday at The Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui in Wailea.

“The Noble Chef is the premier food and wine event for the island of Maui,” says Fairmont Executive Chef Tylun Pang. “Over the past 19 years, this event has evolved and grown to reach its full potential as the largest fundraising event of the year for supporting the culinary education and student career advancement.”

Ohana Bar & Grill at Kaanapali Beach Club is rolling out a new menu this weekend, according to “CheF&B” Craig Erickson. “For instance, we’re doing a 3-liter mason jar of chopped salad shaken with vinaigrette and poured at table, and other fun menu items.”
